Proposal Writer- Government Relations

Responsibilities

Help to support the pitch and proposal process for the Federal Government Relations practice, working alongside the Business Development Specialist and Business Development Director, to produce high quality proposals
Collaborate with the business development team and principals to craft winning strategies for pitches and proposals
Ensure that best practices are being followed throughout the proposal process (evaluation, research, pitch prep, drafting and review)
Draft proposal responses that address our clients’ needs; create new content for targeted pitch materials; while adhering to firm style guidelines
Attend internal pitch prep meetings and client pitch meetings that will inform proposal content
Confidently troubleshoot and resolve formatting issues across platforms (Word, Adobe, CRM platforms, internal software etc.) with minimal supervision
Apply knowledge of government relations and Capitol Hill (Hill experience preferred)—including committee structures, caucuses and jurisdictional authority—to ensure documents are strategically aligned with legislative priorities
Build and maintain relationships with other departments that contribute to the proposal process, including other members of the Marketing Department, Pricing, the General Counsel’s Office and policy analysts
Assist in maintaining the content library for government relations proposals; identify and/or create 'best of the best' language for industries and practices and commonly requested firm information for formal proposals
Collect case studies and experience obtained from proposals and from day-to-day interactions with attorneys, policy professionals and members of the Marketing Department and enter in the experience management database for future use
Work with the business development team to ensure policy professionals participate in post-pitch evaluations to obtain feedback and trend analysis
Keep abreast of relevant market and competitive intelligence

Required

A Bachelors degree in communications, journalism or political science is required
At least 5 years of experience writing marketing materials, including proposals/RFPs, preferably in a professional service environment, Hill, government agency or related business
Excellent written and oral communication skills, including strong writing and editing skills
Superior organizational and project management skills
Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint
Familiarity with AP style guidelines and relational databases
Ability to work independently and with a team
Strong work ethic, service orientation and an ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with peers, office and firm management, and outside business partners
Ability to exercise independent judgment and to use critique of work to improve performance
Ability to work on multiple projects, to work overtime as required, to deal with stress around deadlines and to set and enforce deadlines with lawyers and Business Development team
Firm deadlines, quick turnaround times, and fluctuating workloads are common for this position. The ideal candidate will be able to handle these challenges with grace and confidence and work the hours required to be successful
