CNC Setup Technician – 2nd Shift - Prototype
MDS Staffing is currently seeking a 2nd Shift CNC Setup Technician to support the setup, operation, and maintenance of CNC machines and manufacturing equipment. This role is critical to producing high-quality precision parts efficiently and safely, involving machine setup, quality inspections, troubleshooting, and collaboration with cross-functional teams for continuous improvement.

Responsibilities
Set up and operate CNC machines, including Swiss, milling, and lathes, based on blueprints, technical drawings, and programmer instructions
Complete First Article (FA) inspections and manufacture parts to meet customer specifications
Collaborate with programmers to correct programs and adjust processes as needed
Set tool positions and align machine axes to ensure accurate geometry
Document new part processes, setups, and parameters, including lessons learned and production readiness details
Perform first-run inspections and ongoing sample checks
Verify machine settings and part dimensions using precision measuring tools and vision systems
Monitor production quality and implement corrective actions when deviations occur
Perform final inspections to ensure quality standards are met
Maintain accurate inspection records for traceability and compliance
Diagnose and resolve machine, tooling, and program issues
Coordinate with maintenance for repairs when required
Identify opportunities to improve cycle times and production efficiency
Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to reduce waste and optimize workflows
Ensure preventative maintenance schedules are followed
Assist with machine alignment, adjustment, and upkeep as needed
Verify all safety systems are fully operational and report any safety concerns immediately
Maintain accurate tool sheets and track tool life
Manage inventory of setup components (collets, bar feeder parts, inserts, etc.)
Ensure high-pressure lines are properly aligned for safety and performance
Work closely with engineering, production leadership, and other departments to resolve issues
Train and mentor junior production employees on machine operation, troubleshooting, and quality standards
Document setup procedures, production data, and quality issues accurately
Ensure smooth shift handovers with clear communication and documentation
Provide regular updates to supervisors on machine performance, quality metrics, and improvements
Adhere to all safety policies and maintain a safe work environment
Ensure compliance with company quality standards and applicable industry regulations
Perform other duties as assigned
Qualification
Required
Minimum Experience: 3+ years
Required Education: High School Diploma or GED preferred
Strong problem-solving, organizational, analytical, and critical-thinking skills
Excellent written and verbal communication skills with strong interpersonal effectiveness
High attention to detail and sound judgment in decision-making
Ability to understand procedures while identifying opportunities for improvement
Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic manufacturing environment
Demonstrated ability to build cross-functional relationships and collaborate effectively
Ability to professionally engage with all organizational levels and escalate issues appropriately
Preferred
Technical certificate or equivalent on-the-job training strongly desired
