Environmental Scientist I

Responsibilities
Conduct and oversee site inspections, assessments, investigations, and cleanups in accordance with state and federal regulatory guidelines and as directed by project management staff
Conduct marine mammal observations and PSO duties during in-water and coastal operations, including visual monitoring, documentation, and communication of mitigation actions to project personnel
Work with environmental technicians and other technical staff in data collection, site inspection/investigation, and evaluation of data collected in support of environmental project objectives
Prepare technical evaluations of investigated sites using RCRA guidelines
Provide scientific and technical guidance, support, coordination, and oversight to project staff preparing written project documentation
Review and document the processes necessary to obtain, develop and/or update environmental permits, plans, reports, licenses, and other requirements necessary to achieve environmental compliance and restoration project objectives
Review and provide documentation of environmental technical standards, guidelines, policies, and formal regulations to ensure proposals meet all appropriate requirements
Prepare charts or graphs from data samples, providing summary information on the environmental relevance of the data
Determine data collection methods to be employed in site surveys and investigations
Actively participate in creating a positive team environment
Develop an awareness of the RFP and project planning processes
Work with technical staff in support of project objectives and field operations
Develop understanding of safety protocols, standards, and expectations
Work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner
Perform other duties as directed
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in physical or environmental science
One to three years of experience working on environmental projects, or at least one to three years working in an environmental analytical laboratory
Must meet ADEC's definition of a Qualified Professional
Familiar with 18 AAC 75 (ADEC Oil and Hazardous Substances and Pollution Control Regulations), 18 AAC 78 (ADEC UST Regulations) and the ADEC Draft Field Sampling Guidance Manual
Experience in federal government projects highly desired
A broad understanding of federal, state, and local environmental regulations
Experience with Health and Safety functions a plus
Valid state driver's license and qualified to operate a vehicle under the conditions of Brice Engineering's Driving Policy
Ability to pass drug, driving and background screenings
Introductory knowledge of the practical application of environmental science and technology. This includes applying principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment to the design and production of various environmental services
Knowledge and understanding of RCRA, NPDES, CWA, OPPA, CAA, and other applicable laws, legal codes, government regulations, executive orders, and agency rules governing environmental projects and programs
Ability to identify complex problems and review related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions
Ability to use analytical skills alongside scientific rules and methods to solve problems and apply logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems
Basic computer skills specifically using Microsoft Office Suite; ability to learn additional computer skills or software programs
Effective oral and technical written communication skills to effectively and clearly communicate complex information to others as well as to present information in front of a group
Excellent interpersonal skills to work effectively and cooperatively with all levels of management and staff
Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to prioritize, multi-task, and confidentially process and maintain data with accuracy with directions and mentorship
Ability to build relationships and develop communication skills
Ability to learn and develop positional knowledge
Ability to learn about our business and clients
Preferred
Hazardous Waste Operation and Emergency Response training with current 8-hour refresher preferred
