Responsibilities
Develop, implement, oversee and measure strategic plans and goals for JAES
Create a long-term strategy and vision for growth, sustainability, innovation and community engagement
Manage strategic objectives, in alignment with JAES and JA USA mission, vision, and guiding principles
Provide an overall framework for the design, support and implementation of department initiatives
Establish and monitor performance standards and principles of JAES work
Initiate research intended to lead to the development of new programs and services
Represent JAES in regional and local conversations around financial education, workforce development and entrepreneurship allowing JAES to respond to, develop and create new program initiatives to support
Nurture a strong working relationship with the Board of Directors in financial, programmatic, service, and performance activities of the organization by encouraging all board members to participate in meaningful activities that support JAES mission and vision
Convene Board and Executive Committee meetings by drafting agendas and briefing materials for Board members
Provide management support to the Board of Directors for engagement, recruitment, development and recognition, governance and by-laws
Provide executive support to various Board Committees
Build board support for continuing programs and new initiatives by pursuing and evaluating new potential partnerships to further the organization’s mission and vision
Guide strategic planning with the Board, staff, and stakeholders to ensure effective design, implementation, and evaluation of programs and initiatives
Serve as the chief spokesperson and public face for JAES and represents at relevant events and meetings
Support the marketing strategies and implementation to promote JAES to stakeholders/partners
Develop innovative partnerships and projects that support the mission
Assure that JAES and its mission, programs, and services are consistently presenting a strong, positive image to relevant stakeholders, including leaders in our network, education, government, business, civic groups, the community, and the media
Engage with community partners to offer solutions to meet the needs of the community
Increase knowledge of JAES, conveying its commitment to serving a diverse population
Lead and support the Development Team in strategic fundraising including sponsorships, partnerships, grants, special events, and corporate/foundation investment
Ensure new and diverse sources of revenue to support JAES programs
Create a comprehensive annual and long-term development plan, in consultation with the Board of Directors to support strategic growth plan
Support JAES fundraising strategies, establishing personal relationships with key funders and donors to facilitate the creation of new and renewal of major gifts
Ensure alignment of team to JAES mission and organizational goals
Collaborate with employees in other departments to improve JAES operations
Direct the planning, development, implementation, budgeting, maintenance and support of all department functions
Oversee policies, standards, practices, and security measures for all department functions to assure effective, efficient and consistent department operations
Recruit, hire, train, supervise, mentor, evaluate and develop the senior management team according to JAES’s policies and procedures, ensuring the overall smooth functioning of the department, and consulting the Board as necessary
Provide guidance and direction for the development of all assigned employees to improve the overall professionalism of the department and the support provided to JAES
Plan and direct the continual upgrading of equipment and procedures to maintain pace with technological progress, economic change, and business needs
Exhibit exceptional interpersonal skills with a track record of developing strong relationships with internal and public stakeholders
Ensure that JAES By Laws, Compliance, Filings, JA USA Operating Agreements and compliance, Policies & Procedures, Standard Operating Procedures, and legal matters are aligned with JA USA national committees
Serve on JA USA committees that align with JAES Operational needs
Participate in JA USA’s strategic vision, bringing ideas and innovation to JAES
Oversee the development, design, implementation, management, and delivery of programs following JA USA’s program implementation standards and guidelines
Ensure audit, budget, cashflow, investment and endowment strategies, department budgets, financial support for strategic plans
Assess optimal operations and efficiencies as well as the oversight of policies, procedures, standard operation procedures for long-term sustainable and quality delivery in departments
Maintain a strong working relationship with JA USA as well as the other JA organizations
Ensure the overall financial vitality of the organization
Ensure data reporting and statistics are prepared for partner institutions as required
Develop and submit an annual budget for JAES to the Board and present accurate, detailed financial statements at regularly scheduled intervals
Oversee and authorize all expenditures within the limits of the approved budget
Monitor cash-flow and department budgets
Manage the long-term capital expenditure and investment plans
Manage annual audits and preparation of multiple federal and state tax returns and related filings, in concert with the Executive Treasurer, Accountant and Auditors
Implement continuous, structured assessment of financial and operations effectiveness
Qualification
Required
Knowledge of education system: Depth and understanding of the education space to drive programming and participation including student based special events
Experience with data and technology: Driven approaches including digital fundraising and community engagement, ability to continue to evolve our operational and programmatic approach at pace with evolution of education system, classroom and experiential learning including AI, data and technology; proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google Suite, Video Conferencing platforms, Social Media platforms, Constant Contact or similar communication tools, VolunteerHub, Canva, QuickBooks, DocuSign, School Pass Security System, Grant Management Portals, and Asana or other project management tools
Inspirational leader: Executive presence, charismatic and energetic communicator. A critical thinker who has a passion for the mission
Ethical: Demonstrates integrity, moral character and adherence to the highest ethical standards; ensures that staff and volunteers do likewise; upholds JAES's Culture Commitment & Values

8-10+ years of increasing organizational management experience in nonprofit, corporate, or public sector roles
Demonstrated experience working with board of directors
Demonstrated project management experience
Demonstrated experience in fundraising and/or cultivating and stewarding relationships with individual, corporate, foundation, public, or other funding partners, or transferable experience
Passion for, strong understanding of, and commitment to educational equity, youth development, financial literacy, and/or entrepreneurship
Working knowledge of legal requirements governing non-profit organizations, including corporate structure, employment law, and tax considerations
Working knowledge of financials, human resources, and project management
Strong ties to and/or working relationships with the local business community
Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills
