Mid-Level or Senior Airplane Safety Engineer
The Boeing Company is seeking a Mid-Level or Senior Airplane Safety Engineer to join their Airplane Safety Engineering Team within Enterprise Safety Mission Assurance in Everett, WA. The role involves leading safety analysis and ensuring compliance with safety standards while collaborating with various stakeholders to enhance airplane safety and integrity.

Responsibilities
Leads safety analysis, hazard mitigation, validation and verification activities in compliance with relevant customer and regulatory safety standards
Leads airplane level analyses within the Preliminary Aircraft Safety Assessment and Aircraft Safety Assessment (e.g., Aircraft Functional Hazard Assessment (AFHA), Combined Functional Failure Effects (CoFFE), Common Resource Analysis, Multi-Functional Fault Tree Analysis (MFTA), Functional Design Assurance Level (FDAL) , Common Mode Assessment (CMA), Particular Risk Analysis (PRA), and Zonal Safety Analysis (ZSA))
Provides safety design and analysis expertise to program stakeholders and leadership
Validates and verifies airplane level safety requirements
Develops and leads certification strategies for systems and airplane level safety issues
Represents ASE in airplane level design trade studies, coordination of safety analyses, and functional integration assessments
Ensures adequate redundancy and physical separation of critical systems
Leads airplane level safety analyses like Runway Excursion or Airplane Common Mode to ensure integration across multiple functional systems
Utilizes Model Based System Engineering tools to analyze architectures/designs and develop safety deliverables
Collaborates with internal and external stakeholders to define, validate, and integrate safety, mission success, and airworthiness requirements; incorporates into designs, operations, and procedures
Documents safety analysis, hazard mitigation, validation and verification activities in compliance with relevant customer and regulatory safety standards
Contributes to establishing global safety advocacy strategies, training, tools, and methods
Builds reusable data products and visualizations (dashboards, reports, alerts) to inform engineering, operations, and safety stakeholders
Communicates, collaborates, and presents to cross-functional teams
Qualification
Required
Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology (including Manufacturing Technology), Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry or non-US equivalent qualifications directly related to the work statement
Level 3: 5+ years of related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Level 4: 9+ years of related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
5+ years of experience in systems engineering (e.g. flight controls, hydraulics, avionics, electrical, propulsion, etc.), experience extracting and compiling engineering data from multiple sources, experience driving problem solutions, and experience communicating with executive leadership and/or regulators
Ability to understand data concepts and drive and derive insights from data
Knowledge of basic statistical concepts
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Ability to write concise safety findings and present to cross functional teams
Ability to work cross-functionally and manage multiple priorities
Preferred
2+ years of experience performing and/or reviewing system safety analyses or studies
2+ years of experience with commercial airplane certification including support to regulator-facing forums
2+ years of working knowledge of Functional Hazard Analyses (FHA), Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA), Particular Risk Assessment (PRA) and Fault Trees Analysis (FTA) and/or System Safety Assessments (SSA)
2+ years of experience developing/applying aviation related system safety analysis methods such as System Safety Risk Assessments, Fault Tree Analysis, and/or Functional Hazard Assessment
Operational experience and/or Pilot's license
2+ years of practical experience in the aviation and/or safety domain (e.g. pilot, air traffic controller, et)
Experience solving complex, ambiguous engineering problems within an aerospace design environment
Familiarity with 14CFR Part 25.1309, SAE ARP-4754, and SAE ARP-4761
Experience with data visualization
Experience in commercial aviation safety and experience with aviation data
Experience in systems design and/or systems analysis and/or systems integration
Systems Engineering experience in fundamentals including: requirements validation/verification, functional integration, NxN, Phase A/B/C, and/or Concept of Operations
Experience working with Agile methodologies
Experience leading cross functional teams and complex projects
Experience working effectively with engineering teams
