CST Data Scientist II

The CST Data Scientist II will engage in the full data science workflow, conducting research and development in machine learning and data analysis while collaborating with various researchers and stakeholders.

Responsibilities
Participate in the research and development of machine learning and data analysis
Conduct technical data science research for climate and health disparity, nuclear physics experimental control, MLOps and in areas of interest to the projects
Apply and develop methods to include uncertainty quantification
Publish research results in highly visible, peer-reviewed venues (conferences & journals)
Develop and maintain high quality software for data science projects (machine learning & uncertainty quantification)
Interact with internal and external researchers and domain scientists for collaboration purposes
Participate and interact with funding clients, and potentially lead technical presentations on the work
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's Degree Computer Science, Data Science, Applied Mathematics, Computer Engineering, or closely related field
3 or more years relevant experience
Experience with contributing and leading tasks on major projects with multi-disciplinary teams
AI/ML applications for particle accelerators
Authoring publications utilizing Uncertainty Quantified machine learning methods like Gaussian Processes and Deep Quantile Regression
Familiarity with data archived from the Experimental Physics and Industrial Control System (EPICS)
Proficiency in Python and familiarity with publicly available technical libraries for data analytics (e.g. scikit-learn), deep learning (e.g. Pytorch, Tensorflow) and optimization tools
Ability to work with large datasets and mine relevant information for use in AI/ML applications
Ability to develop approaches and solutions to complex problems in the forms of proposals, software, documents or other work products
Strong interpersonal skills and ability to effectively work on project teams
Strong mathematical skills including Numerical Linear Algebra
Preferred
Experience in AI/ML applications for polarized cryo-targets and tokenization of physics data
Ability to lead and collaborate on work at the intersection of physics/accelerators and AI (Physics-informed NNs, Inverse Problems)
