Electronics Engineer
Air Force Research Laboratory is seeking to hire three Mid-level Scientists & Engineers for the Passive Electro Optic and Infrared Sensing Branch. The role involves conducting research and development in passive EO/IR technologies, managing program efforts, and contributing to algorithm exploitation for applications in air and surface targeting missions.

Responsibilities
Serve as a bench-level scientist and engineer (S&E) performing research and development (R&D) in line with the Passive Electro-Optic and Infrared (EO/IR) Sensing Branch mission
Conduct R&D for applications in air and surface targeting missions, primarily from air and space-based platforms
Engage in research activities including modeling and simulation (M&S), design, development, calibration, and ground/flight testing
Contribute to algorithm exploitation of passive EO/IR systems
Manage and coordinate program efforts related to passive EO/IR technologies
Develop and/or modify new methods, approaches, and scientific knowledge to solve challenges in passive EO/IR technologies
Analyze and resolve complex issues and problems with minimal guidance using scientific and technological knowledge
Oversee and manage contracted R&D to ensure alignment with mission needs
Communicate and provide subject matter expertise to peers, senior leaders, and managers within and beyond the organization
Recognize opportunities and formulate plans; identify and advocate for necessary resources to meet mission requirements
Perform work as a key team member or lead others, making significant contributions to meet team goals
Collaborate effectively with others in a dynamic environment, demonstrating respect for other people and alternative viewpoints
Documents and presents technical progress as required
Maintains electronic case files in accordance with directorate requirements
Authors technical papers to document results as required

Position will be filled using occupational series within the SCIENTIST AND ENGINEERS career field. The applicant must be able to meet the OPM Qualification Standards for the position being filled

Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade, DR-01, or equivalent in other pay systems. This includes experience in developing, maturing, and/or producing EO/IR sensing technologies; formulating, overseeing, and executing technical research and development programs; leadership of cross-organizational teams; and mentoring engineers and scientists
Must be able to obtain and maintain a Top Secret clearance with access to SCI and SAP security clearance
This is a drug testing designated position. The incumbent will be subject to random testing
Technical expertise in military EO/IR sensing technology development, maturation, and/or production for airborne and space-based applications
Experience in development and coordination of classified projects
Demonstrated experience leading matrixed teams across organizations
Ability to perform TDY travel approximately 20% of the time on average
Position is eligible for situational telework. The employee must live within the commuting area of Wright-Patterson AFB
This position is an Acquisition Professional Development Program(APDP) position requiring Level/Tier 2 (Practitioner) Non-Critical certification in Engineering and Technical Management (N); experience requirement is 4 years; and the selectee will have 60-months to meet APDP requirements or a waiver must be obtained
Applicants must list all completed APDP certifications in their resume
Preferred
Experience with Top Secret/SCI and Special Access Programs
Experience collaborating with Department of Air Force and/or US Space Force EO/IR sensing technology stakeholders, such as Program Offices, higher headquarters policy departments, other DoD offices, and related commercial industry partners
Knowledge and experience with Department of Air Force and/or US Space Force technology transition stakeholders, including Air Force Research Laboratory, headquarters organizations, and Major Commands
Experience developing partnerships with external sponsors of technology development, such as DARPA
Understanding of Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) principles
Demonstrated ability to lead teams, build consensus, and resolve conflicts/problems across a collaborative community
Ability to deal with complex, nonstandard situations and environments
Ability to identify process improvement opportunities, define solutions, and iterate towards increased mission effectiveness
