NEOGOV is part of the City of Eureka's Community Services team, seeking an Assistant Community Services Coordinator for softball season. The role involves maintaining softball fields for games and practices, overseeing community services programs, and providing support in various recreational activities.

Responsibilities

Performs support functions in the planning, organization and implementation of community services programs; oversees classes, workshops and activities for participants in recreation programs
May participate in the selection of staff, including recruiting, screening, interviewing, and hiring employees
Trains, and provides appropriate technical and functional supervision to assigned staff
Participates in scheduling and evaluation of assigned staff
Ensures the completeness and accuracy of a variety of documents, such as program registration and waiver forms; accident/incident report forms; staff time cards, etc
Orders and restocks supplies
Responds to inquiries from the public regarding assigned recreation programs; represents the program/department at meetings
Performs light housekeeping duties to ensure a neat, clean and orderly environment
Performs support functions for special events as needed
Receives and handles cash, makes appropriate change, and reconciles cash drawers in an accurate and timely manner
Keeps immediate supervisor and designated others accurately informed concerning work progress, including present and potential work problems and suggestions for new or improved ways of addressing such problems
Attends meetings, conferences, workshops, and training sessions and reviews publications and audio-visual materials to become and remain current on principles, practices, and new developments in assigned work areas
Responds to questions and comments from the public in a courteous and timely manner
Communicates and coordinates regularly with appropriate others to maximize the effectiveness and efficiency of interdepartmental operations and activities
Performs other directly related duties consistent with the role and function of the classification

Required

High school graduation or equivalency supplemented by college or other courses in recreation, physical education or a related field
At least two years of experience providing support functions in the planning, organization and implementation of community services programs
Valid California State Class C Driver's License
CPR and First Aid Certification
Knowledge of pertinent laws, codes, regulations, policies and procedures
Knowledge of principles and practices relating to planning, organizing and implementing community services programs for participants of various ages
Knowledge of training, scheduling and technical and functional supervision of assigned staff
Knowledge of conflict resolution strategies
Knowledge of facilities, operations and techniques used in community services programs
Knowledge of methods and techniques of record keeping and report preparation and writing; proper English spelling and grammar
Knowledge of standard office machines, equipment and computer software
Ability to provide support functions in planning, organizing and implementing community services programs
Ability to train, schedule, evaluate and provide technical and functional supervision to assigned staff
Ability to interpret, explain and apply applicable policies and procedures
Ability to keep accurate records and reports related to community services programs
Ability to make sound decisions within established guidelines
Ability to work independently and as a team member
Ability to observe safety principles and work in a safe manner
Ability to develop and maintain effective relationships with all others who are connected with the programs
Ability to communicate effectively with others, both orally and in writing, using both technical and non-technical language
