Responsibilities
The Professional Coder reviews, analyzes, and codes professional/physician medical record documentation to include, but not limited to, medical diagnostic and E/M coding information for various practices in the hospital outpatient, hospital inpatient and clinic settings
Qualification
Required
High School diploma and 4 years physician/professional E/M coding experience (non-Mayo) or 4 years non-physician/professional E/M Mayo Clinic coding experience required
Associate's Degree and 2 years physician/professional E/M coding experience (non-Mayo) or 2 years non-physician/professional E/M Mayo Clinic coding experience required
Bachelor's Degree preferred
Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA), Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT), Certified Coding Specialist – Physician (CCS-P) or a coding credential of a Certified Professional Coder (CPC) required
Knowledge of physician/professional coding experience with E/M services
Experience with National Correct Coding Initiative edits (NCCI), National Coverage Determinations (NCD), Local Coverage Determinations (LCD), and Outpatient coding guidelines for official coding and reporting
In-depth knowledge of medical terminology, disease processes, patient health record content and the medical record coding process
Knowledge of principles, methods, and techniques related to compliant healthcare billing/collections
Knowledge of coding and billing requirements for services furnished in a teaching settings
Knowledge of coding and billing requirements for provider based billing facilities
Ability to work independently in a teleworking environment, to organize/prioritize work, exercise excellent communication skills, is attentive to detail, demonstrate follow through skills and maintain a positive attitude
