Energy System Modeller (Hybrid)

Net Zero Atlantic (NZA) is working on enabling Atlantic Canada's path to net-zero. This role focuses on energy system modelling and scenario analysis to support evidence-based energy and climate planning in the region.
Research

Responsibilities

Supporting the development, maintenance, and application of NZA's open‑source energy system model
Contributing to scenario design, including technology, demand, resource, and policy assumptions
Analyzing and communicating modelling results through clear visuals and concise written summaries
Preparing, cleaning, and validating data inputs
Documenting modelling methods, assumptions, and findings
Working collaboratively across multiple concurrent research projects in a multidisciplinary environment
Collaborating with modelling peers at the national level to support shared research and best practices

Required

A graduate degree in a STEM field, or equivalent experience in energy system modelling or quantitative analysis
Exposure to energy system modelling through coursework, research, or applied projects
Experience with capacity expansion or production cost models
A foundational understanding of supply, demand, generation, and resource planning
Basic Python programming skills (data handling, scripting, analyses, simple visualizations)
Strong analytical, problem solving, and quantitative reasoning skills
Enthusiasm to learn new tools and modelling approaches
Experience working in collaborative, cross-functional teams
Demonstrated ability to communicate technical ideas clearly
Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a research-focused environment
To be considered for this position, candidates must be legally eligible to work in Canada

Preferred

Experience with TEMOA or similar open-source modelling tools, including Git/GitHub, and scenario analysis is considered an asset
