Mid Level110Talent is working with a well-established client to hire a Freelance Data Center Engineer to provide on-site, hands-on support across data center locations in Newark and the wider North Jersey / NYC metro area. This is a practical, field-based role covering installations, maintenance tasks, and urgent support requests within live data center environments.

Responsibilities
On-site support in data centers (hardware and infrastructure tasks)
Install, remove, and replace equipment (servers, network devices, PDUs)
Cabling and patching (copper and fibre), including tidying and labelling
Perform basic fault checks and safe power cycling as instructed
Hardware and component swaps (break/fix support)
Capture serial numbers, port details, and photo evidence where required
Provide clear status updates and confirmation of task completion for each request
Qualification
Required
Proven hands-on experience working in data center environments
Confident working with racks, structured cabling, and hardware swaps
Familiar with ticket-based workflows and following structured processes
Strong attention to detail and clear written communication
Own reliable transport (covering Newark, NJ and surrounding data center sites in North Jersey / NYC)
Own tools suitable for data center work (hand tools, console cables, etc.)
Able to work as an independent contractor (1099) and invoice for hours worked
Right to work in the United States
Able to pass standard data center site access, background, and security checks
