This role involves providing expert advice and guidance in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and overseeing the development and maintenance of departmental GIS systems to support land conservation and stewardship efforts.

Responsibilities
Provide full performance and expert advice, guidance and direction in the area of Geographic Information Systems (GIS)
Plan, develop, maintain and enhance departmental GIS systems
Perform all phases of the software development life cycle (SDLC) including: analyzing, planning, designing, developing, testing, implementing, and maintaining custom developed software applications for the Department of Natural Resources
Take the lead on any Geographic Information Systems (GIS) development projects
Qualification
Required
Six years of experience, two years of experience designing, developing, testing, implementing and maintaining applications systems and programs using generally accepted computer programming languages or other developmental tools and an additional four years of experience converting data from project specifications by writing program code using generally accepted computer programming languages or other developmental tools
Applicant must have professional experience developing, testing, implementing, and maintaining web and mobile applications using Microsoft Visual Studio, C#, Python, Microsoft SQL Server, and Environmental Systems Research Institute (ESRI) GIS Software
Preferred
Two (2) years of experience developing with Python, JavaScript, R, Visual Studio, C#
Two (2) years of experience developing SQL databases, SQL queries, and stored procedures
Two (2) years of experience with web development frameworks (Angular, React, etc.)
One (1) year of experience developing mobile applications
One (1) year of experience with developing with artificial intelligence including API integrations using popular LLMs (Gemini, GPT series, Claude, etc.)
One (1) year of experience with developing AI Agents
One (1) year of experience working with AI/ML Frameworks & Libraries such as TensorFlow, PyTorch or ONNX
Two (2) years of experience leading meetings and working with a team
Highly effective oral and written communications skills including the ability to develop clearly written, understandable and complete English project/user documentation
Experience developing and delivering software under agile methodologies
