Research Analyst, Bureau of Epidemiology Services
The NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene is dedicated to protecting and improving the health of New Yorkers. The Research Analyst will collaborate with the DOHMH legal team and various partners to manage data use agreements, coordinate communications, and conduct data analyses for public health research.

Responsibilities
Work in close collaboration with the DOHMH legal team to assist with drafting and facilitating the execution of multiple data use agreements with partner institutions that will provide data to the study sites
Coordinate communications among partners at DOHMH, New York University, Columbia University, and NYC Health + Hospitals by scheduling meetings as needed and summarizing meeting notes and action items
Actively elicit and document input from co-investigators to define variables based on research questions, operationalize variable definitions, and create a data dictionary for the final analytic dataset
Lead data matching and data management processes by coordinating activities such as communicating with data stewards at DOHMH and external agencies to procure data, facilitating data matching process with BDTS, and maintaining and documenting all matching processes
In collaboration with and assistance from co-investigators, conduct analyses to test hypotheses and contribute to writing peer reviewed papers
Qualification
Required
A master's degree from an accredited college or university with a specialization in an appropriate field of physical, biological or environmental science or in public health
A doctorate degree from an accredited college or university with specialization in an appropriate field of physical, biological, environmental or social science and one year of full-time experience in a responsible supervisory, administrative or research capacity in the appropriate field of specialization
A master's degree from an accredited college or university with specialization in an appropriate field of physical, biological, environmental or social science and three years of responsible full-time research experience in the appropriate field of specialization
Education and/or experience which is equivalent to '1' or '2' above. However, all candidates must have at least a master's degree in an appropriate field of specialization and at least two years of experience described in '2' above
Two years as a City Research Scientist Level I can be substituted for the experience required in '1' and '2' above
Preferred
Master's degree in public health, epidemiology, statistics, or a closely related field
Proficiency in statistical programming languages (e.g., SAS, R, SQL) and data analysis tools
Detail-oriented with strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills, with a demonstrated ability to work independently, manage multiple projects, and meet deadlines
Experience performing research project management and bringing together multiple stakeholders for complex projects
Excellent resource management skills for improving efficiency and fostering collaboration
Excellent knowledge management skills
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Experience working with public health data in the context of a government agency
Knowledge of public health principles and methodologies
