Generator Technicians

Vital Electric Supply is seeking a Generator Technician responsible for the maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, installation, and commissioning of diesel and gaseous generator systems. This role involves ensuring uptime and safety for mission-critical facilities, and includes both planned maintenance and emergency response duties.
Electrical & Electronic Manufacturing

Responsibilities

Perform preventive maintenance on diesel and natural gas generators (10kW–3MW+)
Inspect and service engines, alternators, cooling systems, exhaust, fuel systems, and controls
Conduct load bank testing and system performance evaluations
Complete accurate service documentation using company systems
Diagnose electrical, mechanical, and control system issues
Troubleshoot generator controllers (e.g., Deep Sea, ComAp, Woodward, Rehlko, PowerCommand)
Repair or replace components including starters, governors, sensors, fuel components, and breakers
Identify root causes and recommend corrective actions to improve reliability
Support installation of generators, ATS, and associated switchgear
Assist with startups, commissioning, and acceptance testing
Verify proper integration with customer electrical systems
Ensure compliance with NEC, NFPA 110, and local AHJ requirements
Respond to emergency service calls and outages
Participate in on-call rotation and after-hours support
Assist with temporary power deployments during outages, maintenance, or disaster response
Adhere to all Vital Electric Supply safety policies and procedures
Maintain clean, professional job sites and company vehicle
Communicate clearly with customers, contractors, and internal teams
Identify service, upgrade, or reliability improvement opportunities and relay them to management

Required

3+ years of commercial or industrial generator service experience
Strong understanding of diesel and gaseous engine systems
Solid working knowledge of AC/DC electrical systems
Experience servicing ATS and basic switchgear
Ability to read and interpret wiring diagrams, one-lines, and technical documentation
Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and work in industrial environments

Preferred

Factory training or certifications (Rehlko/Kohler, Cummins, CAT, Generac, MTU, etc.)
Familiarity with NFPA 110 requirements
Load bank testing experience
Paralleling gear and controls experience
EPA emissions and fuel system knowledge
Military or utility power generation background
