Program Support Specialist- Therapeutic
Zane State College is seeking a Program Support Specialist for the Roanoke County Therapeutic Recreation Services. The role involves performing administrative support functions, assisting in program planning, and ensuring the effective delivery of recreation activities for adults with disabilities.

Responsibilities
Assists in the development of purposeful program plans for recreation programs for adults with disabilities
Participates in the evaluation of program and participant goals to ensure programs are meeting participants needs
Attends community outreach or advocacy events to promote Therapeutic Recreation Services of the Roanoke Valley (TRS)
Works with TRS support staff to ensure program goals are being met
Completes documentation for grant and purchase of services agreements
Uses the Class system to register participants for programs, enter programs, and access information needed for customer services
Maintains financial information to track budgets and maintain cost effectiveness of programs
Purchases and maintains supplies for programs
Enters participant information and maintains information in TRS database
Attends all TRS and Parks, Recreation, & Tourism Department meetings
Attends Roanoke County HR trainings as needed
Communicates with parents, care providers, case workers, and participants related to program issues
Qualification
Required
Education equivalent to graduation from high school supplemented by college courses in therapeutic recreation, psychology, special education or a related field
Considerable experience in administrative support and working with people with disabilities in a professional setting. Education may be substituted for equivalent experience
Must possess a valid Virginia driver's license and have a good driving record
Comprehensive knowledge of administrative and office procedures
Comprehensive knowledge of Therapeutic Recreation
Ability to constructively participate in the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of recreation programs for adults with disabilities that may include; development/intellectual, head injury related, mobility, mental health/psychiatric, or visual impairments
Ability to complete objective documentation
Ability to use assessment tools to create appropriate goals and objectives for participants and programs
Ability to direct the activities of other employees
Ability to gather, organize and report information
Ability to work in a demanding work environment requiring teamwork
Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
Ability to follow operating procedures and maintain confidentiality
Skill and proficiency in the use of computer hardware and software such as Microsoft programs: Excel, Word, Publisher, and Power Point
Subject to a complete criminal history and Child Protective Services background search with acceptable results
Must be able to perform the job as described in the Physical and Environmental Demands section of this job description
Preferred
Associates Degree in Therapeutic Recreation or related field
