Responsibilities
Design and analyze fire protection systems, including fire suppression, sprinkler systems, fire alarms, smoke control, and emergency evacuation systems for new construction and retrofit projects
Lead the design and coordination of fire protection and life safety systems, ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal regulations, including NFPA, IBC, IFC, and other relevant codes
Conduct fire risk assessments, hazard analysis, and code reviews to identify fire-related risks and develop strategies to mitigate these risks
Perform complex fire protection system calculations and modeling (e.g., water supply, flow analysis, sprinkler head selection, fire alarm layout, etc.)
Provide guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and project teams, ensuring high-quality engineering practices are followed throughout the project lifecycle
Review and approve fire protection system designs and drawings, ensuring they meet all regulatory standards and client requirements
Prepare detailed engineering reports, specifications, and documentation for fire protection systems and code compliance
Oversee fire protection system installation, testing, and commissioning to ensure systems are functioning as designed
Conduct inspections and site assessments to verify the implementation of fire protection systems, troubleshooting and addressing any issues that arise
Stay updated on the latest industry trends, fire protection technologies, standards, and regulations to continually improve engineering practices and solutions
Provide technical expertise to clients, contractors, and other stakeholders, offering fire safety training and advising on fire protection system maintenance and upgrades
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in Fire Protection Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related field
A valid and active Professional Engineer (PE) license is required
Minimum of 5 years of experience in fire protection engineering, including the design, implementation, and inspection of fire protection systems
Strong understanding of fire protection codes, regulations, and standards (NFPA, IBC, IFC, etc.)
Proficient in fire protection design software (AutoCAD, Revit, FDS, HydraCAD, etc.)
Proven expertise in fire suppression systems, fire alarm systems, smoke control systems, and life safety systems
Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills
Excellent communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with clients, contractors, and interdisciplinary teams
Strong project management abilities, including the capacity to handle multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines
Knowledge of life safety systems and emergency response planning is a plus
Preferred
Certification as a Certified Fire Protection Specialist (CFPS) or other relevant fire protection certifications
Experience in managing and mentoring teams of engineers
Experience working in a consulting, construction, or engineering firm
Ability to conduct advanced fire modeling and simulation
