Responsibilities

The Transmission C&M Substation Underground Technician Apprentice is a training classification and is responsible in completing a training program to advance to Transmission C&M Substation Underground Technician
The goal of the program is to develop proficiency in all technical functions using various training methods including the classroom, on-the-job training, and field experience
As training and qualifications develop, the Transmission C&M Substation Underground Technician Apprentice will be expected to perform assigned duties
Position has call-out responsibilities and must be available to work all hours as needed, day or night, weekends, or holidays, and in all weather conditions
Requires ability to travel and stay overnight to various locations

Required

Demonstrate a strong aptitude for technical work by passing the applicable EEI Construction and Skills Trade (CAST) test is required for job
Must be able to obtain within 6 months of being awarded the job: a valid State CDL Class A Driver's License
Pass any required background check for NERC/CIP/Nuclear compliance
Pass required background check for Hazmat endorsement
Ability to understand and complete Oil Handling / Dissolve Gas Analysis (DGA) sampling / Spill Prevention Training
Working knowledge and skills in the handling, placement and securing heavy loads for transportation
High School diploma or equivalent
Ability to lift up to 75 lbs
Ability to push/pull weights up to 75 lbs
Manual dexterity to operate small hand tools, turn small knobs, etc
Ability to sit for 2-3 hours; may be driving a truck or sitting or sitting in a manhole or an underground vault
Ability to stand a minimum of 5-6 hours; may be on ground or in a bucket on a line truck
Ability to move frequently to unload equipment and to install/maintain/repair equipment
Ability to frequently climb or use authorized equipment to reach various heights
Ability to frequently and repetitively bend/stoop/squat
Must be able to read construction drawings and use a transit (for leveling purposes) for determining depth and size of trenches or holes and grade elevations
Ability to work in enclosed, tight spaces
Ability to successfully complete the Construction and Skilled Trade (CAST-R) Testing
Ability to obtain a valid Class A commercial driver's license (CDL)
Due to OSHA imposed regulations, the body weight limit is imposed at 285 lbs. or less
Residency Requirement: Must reside within 60 minutes of reporting location
