Technical Superintendent

Mercy Ships is seeking a New Ship Technical Superintendent to coordinate the technical operations of the new ship through construction, sea trials, and initial field service. Responsibilities

Oversee and support the building of the planned maintenance system and upon delivery monitor routine and corrective maintenance onboard assigned
Oversee preparation of work plans for equipping phase and initial field service, while planning for annual maintenance phases, including drydocking as required, of assigned ship(s)
In conjunction with New Build Site Team Manager ensure all necessary classification requirements for each assigned ship(s) is in place to ensure timely delivery then monitor such documents to ensure completion of scheduled surveys and/or attention to identified defects
Develop and coordinate building SMS documentation, regulatory documentation and shipboard manuals
Review requests for repairs and/or modifications to determine compliance with statutory regulations and classification society
As necessary, inspect machinery, equipment, or spaces outlined in work and modification requests; draw up job specifications; and obtain bids from contractors or shipyards to perform
Maintain contact with contractors to ensure completion of work according to contract terms
Investigate machinery casualties to determine cause; advise ships officers in methods of operation to prevent recurrence of casualty or malfunction
Plan supply stocks for all Marine Operations specialties to ensure engineers, plumbing, electrical, hotel engineer, deck, and carpentry have the repair parts and consumables on hand to sustain safe operations
Maintain records of technical expenses for each ship such as repairs, supplies, and liaise with regulatory agencies to ensure that requirements for alterations, repair, or modifications are kept at minimum cost consistent with safety
Review and advise on qualifications of technical staff and/or applicants
Maintain proficient knowledge of Company SMS; assist QHSE Manager to ensure safe working practices are followed on assigned ship(s)
Visit the new build frequently during construction and equipping years and after the vessel is operational and in field service, conduct the annual Company Vessel Inspection after delivery

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations
Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals
Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, contractors, suppliers, and the general public
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables
Ability to travel nationally and internationally
Certificate of Competency in accordance with STCW 111/2 required; Chief Engineer preferred

Bachelor's degree (B.Sc.) from four-year College or University; or four years related industry experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
Two or more years of service a board ROPAX or Cruise vessels to provide the necessary background in sustaining a vessel with a substantial crew aboard

Ability to base out of Mercy Ships International Support Center in Lindale, Texas for daily work
