Responsibilities
Setup and operate a variety of machine tools (lathes, milling machines, grinders)
Perform repetitive machining tasks such as turning, milling, drilling, boring, honing, broaching, and grinding
Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and work instructions
Determine proper feeds, speeds, tooling, and operation sequence
Select proper coolants and cutting and lubricating oils to recognize when tools need dressing, and to dress tools
General programming involving computer-controlled equipment
Maintain a clean and organized work area in compliance with safety standards
Other duties as assigned
Qualification
Required
High school diploma or equivalent
Blueprint interpretation skills
Basic Manual Machine and CNC Operation skills (mill and lathe preferred)
Must be able to work independently or within a small team
The ability to lift up to 40 lbs
Stand for long periods of time and perform physical tasks
Must meet eligibility for a Public Trust background investigation for government issues credentials and IT access/applicants must be able to pass a security background check per Redstone Arsenal/MSFC requirements
Applicants for positions which require a US government security clearance must meet eligibility requirements to include US citizenship
Preferred
3 years machine shop experience
Overhead crane and forklift (will certify to center standards)
