Electrical Controls Technician
Midwest Engines & Generators (MEG) sells industrial engines and generators and builds custom power systems. They are seeking a hands-on Electrical Controls Technician to support the assembly, wiring, testing, and troubleshooting of generator electrical and control systems, ensuring reliable power solutions for commercial and industrial applications.
Responsibilities
Must have an in-depth understanding of basic electrical systems (240VAC single-phase, 480VAC three-phase, and 24VDC)
Assemble electrical and electronic systems
Build, calibrate, and repair electrical instruments or testing equipment
Assemble, test, and maintain circuitry or electronic components according to engineering instructions and technical manuals
Read wiring diagrams and install controls and components per diagram requirements
Identify solutions to technical design and electrical system challenges
Adjust and replace defective circuitry and electronic components
Inspect electrical work for quality control, report findings, and recommend improvements
Draw diagrams and write specifications for electrical installations when required
Diagnose and repair issues discovered during initial system testing
Perform voltage conversions and breaker upgrades on generators based on customer requirements
Assist in final package testing and commissioning
Perform conduit bending, wire routing, stripping, termination, junction box installation, and small transformer installation (up to 50kVA)
Rewire, adjust, and install control panels and voltage regulators
Program and integrate 24VDC sensors back to engine control panels
Qualification
Required
In-depth understanding of electrical systems and controls
Ability to diagnose and repair electrical issues
Experience working with both AC and DC low-to-medium voltage systems
Familiarity with electrical components, control systems, and generator technology
Strong attention to detail and quality workmanship
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Strong communication skills to work with team members and occasionally customers
Ability to estimate the time required to complete assigned tasks
Valid Driver's License (Required)
Preferred
3-5 years of experience in an electrical, controls, or industrial wiring role
Familiarity with CAN-based control systems and generator control panels
Experience with generator systems, industrial equipment, or power systems
