Responsibilities

Assemble, explore, clean, and structure raw data for analysis and reporting
Build and maintain data transformation models (e.g., dbt) that support analytics and dashboards
Create and optimize data models that power BI dashboards and internal reporting
Support the ingestion and analysis of telematics and fleet-related data, including:
Driver behavior events (hard braking, speeding, etc.)
Training completion and learning data
Crash and incident records
Work closely with analysts, product, and engineering teams to translate business questions into data solutions
Identify, flag, and help resolve data quality issues; assist in establishing data quality standards and documentation
Create and maintain documentation for data models, definitions, assumptions, and transformations
Support ad-hoc analytics requests from internal stakeholders and deliver accurate, timely insights
Write and maintain clean, performant SQL and Python code that aligns with team standards
Develop a strong understanding of fleet operations, driver safety concepts, and Smith System’s products and customers

Required

Bachelor's degree in a quantitative field such as Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Economics, Engineering, or a related discipline
Strong foundational SQL skills, including writing complex queries and understanding relational data models
Python experience for data manipulation, analysis, or automation
Ability to analyze data, ask thoughtful questions, and understand the “why” behind trends—not just the numbers
Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain insights to both technical and non-technical audiences
Ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize effectively, and work collaboratively in a team environment

Preferred

Familiarity with data visualization or BI tools (Looker or Omni preferred)
Experience with or strong interest in analytics engineering tools
