Responsibilities
Edit and develop 30+ books annually for Scholastic’s proprietary distribution channels and Trade, including: board books, novelty books, hardcovers, paperbacks, RLBs, book “plus” formats, activity books/kits and other special formats as needed
Oversee all stages of production from concept to publication to ensure quality content is developed on schedule
Identify, hire, and manage authors and/or packagers as needed. Negotiate contracts, costs and payment terms with contributors with some guidance from Executive Director
Monitor workflow between writers/designers, manufacturing, packagers, photo research, marketing and art groups to meet publishing deadlines
Act as US editor on select projects developed by
Manage approval process with licensors when needed, including securing all assets, submitting files for approval, and communicating licensor feedback to Production and Design
Actively seek out new brands, authors, ideas and content to acquire. Prepare and present compelling decks of new ideas to share with stakeholders at regular meetings. Meet with channel buyers to assess product needs, conduct sales and trend research as needed to develop effective, engaging pitches
Create project budgets, route for approval, and track project P&Ls, contract requests, and invoices
Create fact sheets and seasonal catalogs for internal use
Assist in the management and mentorship of group Editorial Assistant. Oversee freelance editors as needed
Qualification
Required
4+ years in children's book publishing with experience in licensed media publishing and/or nonfiction children's publishing
Experience creating, commissioning, guiding and editing highly visual content
Professional proofreading and fact-checking skills
4+ years of editorial experience in children's books or educational publishing with an expertise in licensed media publishing and/or children's nonfiction
Bachelor's Degree
