Responsibilities

Develop design criteria and produce roadway geometry, traffic control plans, signing and pavement marking layouts, drainage systems, and stormwater management solutions
Prepare detailed engineering drawings, specifications, and cost estimates for transportation projects
Create technical reports, tables, and graphics in accordance with client requirements and AECOM standards
Perform engineering calculations and analyses to support design decisions and ensure compliance with applicable regulations and standards
Follow and promote AECOM quality assurance procedures
Conduct site visits and field investigations to gather data and assess existing project conditions
Prepare presentations to communicate technical findings, recommendations, and constraints
Collaborate with multidisciplinary design teams to meet project scope, budget, and schedule requirements through responsible and ethical decision‑making
Support AECOM project managers and department managers with project execution

Qualification

Civil EngineeringBentley OpenRoads DesignerAutoCAD Civil 3DEngineer-in-Training (EIT)Professional Engineer (PE) LicenseVDOT project experienceHybrid work environmentABET accredited degreeMentorship

Required

Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or an equivalent engineering discipline, plus four (4) years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification
Demonstrated experience using Bentley OpenRoads Designer (ORD), AutoCAD Civil 3D, and/or similar highway or transportation design software

Preferred

Design experience with VDOT projects
Experience in civil engineering with an emphasis on Roadway, Drainage, and Traffic projects
Ability and willingness to offer mentorship to various levels of staff
Ability and willingness to operate within a hybrid work schedule environment with hybrid teams
Professional Engineer (PE) License in any state, or ability to obtain PE within 1 year of hire
Degree accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET
