Utilities Electrician
NEOGOV is seeking a skilled Electrician to support the maintenance, repair, and installation of electrical systems essential to City operations. This role involves diagnosing and resolving electrical issues, performing preventative maintenance, and maintaining accurate service and inventory records while contributing to safe and efficient operations.

Responsibilities
Performs skilled electrical repair or maintenance work on equipment for the City of Tumwater
Performs lower skilled electrical repair and maintenance tasks and non-electrical maintenance tasks as needed
Diagnoses the extent of electrical problems and replaces or repairs equipment based upon the cost and quality of equipment operation considerations
Inspects street construction electrical work and makes construction recommendations
Anticipates and troubleshoots problems where needed, assures quick and appropriate response to citizen inquiries, requests for service, and/or complaints
Investigates and resolves complex or significant problems relating to trouble calls and complaints
Regularly takes initiative in recommending changes in work methods, policies, and procedures to improve levels of service delivery and improve overall operating efficiencies
Assures a safe working environment by following appropriate safety regulations, and workplace operating policies and procedures and training employees as necessary
Estimates materials and timelines for installation, repairs and maintenance activities
Maintains records of all service performed on equipment
Maintains inventory records of related parts
Specifies, orders and picks up needed materials/supplies
Schedules preventative maintenance; makes recommendation to Assistant Utilities Operations Manager for improvements
Performs related and non-electrical maintenance duties as assigned
Qualification
Required
Three years of related work experience in electrical repair and maintenance in an industrial manufacturing or municipal environment
Thorough knowledge of electrical principles related to an industrial or facilities environment including pumps, motors, 3 phase and single phase control, and telemetry equipment
Extensive knowledge of the standard methods, materials, tools, equipment and technology in the electrical trade
Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the electrical trade
Ability to locate, diagnose, and repair electrical malfunctions in a variety of pumps, motors, control, and equipment
Ability to comprehend technical instructions and repair manuals
Ability to understand and execute oral and written instructions
Ability to read, understand and work from electrical plans and sketches
Ability to use and care for the tools, equipment, and materials of the electrical trade
Ability to maintain inventory records and order cost-effective parts and supplies
Must possess or have the ability to obtain a Washington State Commercial Driver's License within 12 months of hire
Preferred
Expertise in electrical controls
Valid Levels I and II International Municipal Signal Association Traffic Signal Certification
Benefits
Vacation: Regular full-time City employees earn 96 hours of paid annual leave during their first year of employment. This rate is increased to a maximum of 184 hours per year, depending upon length of service.
Sick Leave: Sick leave is accrued by regular full-time City employees at the rate of 8 hours per month.
Holidays: Most City employees receive 11 paid holidays (at 8 hours each) annually, one of which is a floating holiday.
Retirement: Eligible City employees are mandatory members of the State of Washington Public Employees Retirement System (PERS). New employees have a choice between PERS Plan 2 and PERS Plan 3. Both the City and the employee contribute to the system. The state retirement system provides retirement benefits and also benefits for people who are disabled. Employees leaving City service prior to retirement may withdraw their total contribution with interest.
Teamsters Trust Retirement Program: Under the current Teamster's contract, the City pays a contribution of $3.65 for each hour for which compensation is paid into the Western Conference of Teamsters Trust Pension Fund.
Deferred Compensation: Employees may participate in by making employee contributions to this tax-deferred retirement account.
Insurance Plans: Each employee in this bargaining unit is covered by full-family insurance, paid for by the City. This insurance includes comprehensive medical and dental and vision coverage.
Group Life Insurance: The City provides a $30,000 policy through the Teamsters Trust with a $400.00 a week time loss benefit. An additional $10,000 life insurance is also provided through The Standard for each employee.
Hours of Work: The normal work week is forty (40) hours, Monday through Friday. Crews work 4/10 hour shifts (Mon-Thurs or Tues-Friday). Some positions require weekend, evening, shift or holiday work or overtime.
