Responsibilities

Responsible for inspection and evaluation of public railroad crossings (on & off system) located within District 03. Uses the resulting information and evaluations to resolve issues at problem crossings and to upgrade crossing data in the state-maintained inventory system (RIMS)
Receives complaints from the general public, via phone, e-mail and in person concerning deterioration of railroad crossings, malfunctioning signals, high profile crossings, and other safety related rail issues
Coordinates a resolution between the associated representatives, individually and at the request of the District Engineer Administrator, for on-site inspections of railroad crossings and other railroad crossing concerns when LA DOTD interests are involved
Functions as the Project Engineers lead inspector for inspections of newly constructed railroad crossings, installation of cantilevers and signals, repair of existing crossings, and other railroad related projects
Works with the Project Engineer and his/her staff to ensure daily work reports are complete, quantities are recorded and verified, estimates are prepared and accurate, as-builts are complete, and the 2059 is complete and turned in. Attend the final inspection with the Project Engineer once the project is complete
Visually inspects, on a quarterly basis, all district-wide railroad crossings to determine condition of roadway approaches, track conditions, crossing signals and vegetation/sight clearance issues. Maintains a record of all inspections
Functions as the permit section's lead inspector on all permit related construction activities within the district and ensures work is performed in accordance with DOTD specifications and approved drawings
Reports any findings of non­conformance to the respective Area Engineer, ADA of Engineering, and District Permits Specialist. Utilizes expertise and knowledge to suggest any corrective actions necessary
Receives and investigates complaints/concerns from the general public, Parish Maintenance Superintendents and other DOTD employees, and local officials on unpermitted work within the DOTD right of way and reports the findings of the investigation to the District's Permit Specialist

Required

Possession of a high school diploma or GED plus four years of sub-professional engineering experience
Six months of experience in sub-professional engineering, heavy mobile equipment operation, or mobile equipment maintenance plus four years of sub-professional engineering experience
Twenty-four semester hours in one of the following specialized fields: architecture, cartography, construction management, construction technology, drafting, engineering, engineering graphics, engineering technology, industrial technology, landscape architecture, math, or physics
A bachelor's degree in engineering, engineering technology, construction management or construction technology
