SMC Infrastructure Solutions is seeking a Lead Cabling Technician responsible for the installation of structured cabling systems. This role involves leading small teams, ensuring high-quality work, and coaching technicians while maintaining safety standards.
Construction

Responsibilities

Maintain safety and security standards and follow established installation procedures
Serve as a subject matter expert for installing fiber and copper cabling between equipment
Install, route, and secure structured cabling systems (Cat5e/Cat6, fiber, coax, and other low-voltage cabling)
Terminate, label, patch, and test cables according to standards and project specifications
Build and maintain pathways (ladder rack, J-hooks, conduit, raceway) and keep work areas organized
Troubleshoot cabling issues using appropriate testing tools to ensure signal integrity and performance
Read and interpret floor plans, riser diagrams, and cabling schematics
Document work accurately for quality control, reporting, and closeout
Lead site teams, assign tasks, train new team members, and provide constructive feedback
Act as a key point of contact across departments and provide direction to small teams and vendors

Required

4+ years of structured cabling or related field installation experience; prior crew leadership
reliable transportation; ability to travel between sites
Technical aptitude with strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Clear written and verbal communication
Ability to work independently and lead teams
Quick decision-making and effective prioritization skills

Preferred

BICSI or manufacturer certifications (or willingness to obtain)
data center or commercial construction environment experience
basic computer skills for documentation
