Assistant Vice President Design Executive (B&T)

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) is seeking an Assistant Vice President, Design Executive for their Construction & Development agency. This role involves managing architectural and engineering design processes within the Delivery Bridges & Tunnels business unit, ensuring compliance with industry standards and fostering innovation in project management practices.

Responsibilities

Oversees the entire design/design compliance review team
Fosters a culture of innovation and change in design delivery methods, technologies, and strategy
Provide the Delivery B&T business unit with lessons learned and strategies to streamline design reviews and create training opportunities across integrated project teams
Establishes, monitors, and audits the Design-Builder's design and engineering activities for compliance with the Contract requirements and the Design-Builder's Quality Control Plan
Escalates issues to Delivery B&T & business unit leadership as they arise amongst technical problems within projects/teams/third parties
Provides ultimate technical recommendations for any/all escalated items

Required

Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Architecture, Construction or Project Management, Business Administration, Transportation, or a related field
Must have a minimum of fourteen (14) years of related experience
Must have a minimum of ten (10) years in managing design projects or supervisory roles in a large, multi-faceted organization
A licensed Professional Engineer (PE) or Registered Architect (RA) is required
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Demonstrated ability to build relationships and work collaboratively with stakeholders at all organizational levels
Demonstrated ability to work in a high-profile, high-pressure environment effectively
Must have focus and ability to deliver on results, organizational effectiveness, and continuous improvement
Must be a proven leader as a change agent and creative/innovative thinker with the ability to align business goals with solutions to drive process improvements
Must possess excellent team-building, listening, problem-solving, and prioritization skills

Preferred

Significant experience in design project management for major construction projects with highly complex systems is preferred
Experience leading and managing contractors, subcontractors, or vendors
Alternative Delivery experience preferred
