Operations Manager (Engineering Consulting)
KUNZ is an engineering consultancy seeking a highly organized and proactive Operations Manager to lead the operational backbone of their growing team. In this role, you will ensure that the engineering teams have the necessary resources, systems, and financial oversight to deliver world-class projects across multiple locations.

Responsibilities
Capacity Modeling: Manage the master resource schedule for a growing team of 40+ engineers across two states to ensure optimal utilization and prevent burnout
Cross-Office Coordination: Facilitate seamless collaboration between the SF and Golden teams, identifying resource gaps and reallocating staff based on project priority and expertise
Hiring Integration: Work with leadership to identify future staffing needs and candidates based on project pipelines
Project Accounting: Monitor project budgets, burn rates, and profitability margins
Billing & Accounts Receivable: Oversee the invoicing process, ensuring technical staff submit accurate billable hours and expenses
Expense Management: Review and approve operational expenses and project-related procurement
Timesheet Management: Act as the primary lead for the collection and verification of weekly timesheets for the engineering team
Liaison with HR/Finance: Partner with corporate payroll to ensure multi-state compliance (CA and CO) regarding overtime, benefits, and tax localizations
Onboarding: Manage the operational onboarding of new hires (hardware, software access, and systems training)
Systems Administration: Maintain and optimize our ERP, CRM, and project management software (e.g. QuickBooks, Expensify, RUDDR, TRINET and plenty of spreadsheets)
Workflow Automation: Identify bottlenecks in current administrative processes and implement scalable solutions
Office Management: Ensure the San Francisco headquarters remains a high-functioning environment for the local team
Qualification
Required
3+ years in an operations or project management role, preferably within an AEC (Architecture, Engineering, Construction) or professional services consultancy
Strong interest and understanding of project-based accounting, overhead rates, and billable utilization metrics
Proficiency in project management tools and spreadsheets is a must
Ability to work four days per week on-site in San Francisco, with ability to develop an understanding of Colorado labor nuances for the remote team
Exceptional interpersonal skills; able to bridge the gap between technical engineering staff and executive leadership while maintaining confidentiality
