Responsibilities

Develop and coordinate the organization’s legislative program at federal, state, regional and local levels
Monitor and analyze the impact of legislative, policy, and regulatory issues
Develop a coordinated strategy and response to legislative issues
Engage with local elected officials and city staff in the 19 cities along the Caltrain corridor
Coordinate public outreach and community affairs for Caltrain’s capital projects
Lead regional political strategy for major infrastructure and transit-oriented development efforts
Serve as a liaison to local stakeholders and community-based organizations
Support funding initiatives to help move capital projects from planning through delivery

Required

Must be currently enrolled in an accredited university as an undergraduate student, graduate student, or 2025 graduate
Must be able to work onsite in Millbrae for the duration of the program (June 22 – August 14), not to exceed 40 hours/week or 320 cumulative hours
Proficient in Microsoft Suites (Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint)
Strong situational awareness and attention to detail
Clear written and verbal communication
Program management, contracting and or scheduling experience
Effective time management and task follow-through
Ability to work collaboratively with a problem-solving mindset
This internship requires site visits, the selected intern must be able to successfully complete safety training in order to complete field visits along an active railroad

Preferred

Declared majors in the following relevant field(s): Transportation planning, urban planning, communications, political science, public relations, or journalism

Benefits

Transportation passes for District systems (Caltrain & SamTrans) will be offered for the duration of the internship.
