Cable Television Technician

The City of San Clemente is seeking a Part-Time Cable Technician who takes pride in their technical precision while serving the community. This role involves producing and directing live city meetings, creating a positive visual image of the city government, and maintaining video equipment.

Responsibilities

Produce and direct live City Council and city planning commission meetings
Create a strong and positive visual image of City Government around the community
Update community calendar and program the city’s internet site, pipeline, and updates
Produce, shoot, and edit various videos
Maintain video equipment
Operate cameras, recording equipment, J.V.C. switcher, adjust audio mixer during council meetings
Balance color on cameras
Prepare program agenda for meetings
Perform related duties and responsibilities as required

Required

One year of cable and/or television production and prior video production experience demonstrating the ability to plan and complete project shoots and post-shoot production
Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade, supplemented by college course work in video, television, or cable production
Knowledge of video production equipment
Knowledge of electronic news gathering (ENG) equipment (camera, deck, audio, monitor, phones, and computers/software) and editing systems
Ability to develop a knowledge of, and awareness of, public meeting processes and imaging and preserving official records of these public proceedings
Ability to properly use video production equipment to film scripted and unanticipated city events and meetings and preserve such images/recordings
Ability to follow oral and written instructions
Ability to work cooperatively with the public and employees in an enthusiastic and constructive manner
Ability to organize and troubleshoot technical issues that may arise during videotaping sessions
Ability to evaluate emergency situations and to act decisively and effectively to resolve them
Must be available to work a flexible schedule including weekends, holidays, evenings, split shifts, and late evenings for public meetings
Moderate lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of video equipment such as cameras, tripods, microphones, speakers, lights, screens, etc
Stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling to set up and take down equipment and to ensure most effective visual perspectives/images for finished product
Manual dexterity to operate a computer keyboard and other electronic equipment such as cameras, speakers, recording devices, electrical connections
Hearing and speaking to exchange information in person or on the telephone
Visual acuity to see/read documents and computer screen
Normal color vision to accurately perceive indicator lights and colored wires

Benefits

Each part-time employee will be enrolled in a 457 PTS Deferred Compensation plan based upon 7.5% of gross pay with costs being shared equally by the employee and the City.
Beginning January 1, 2024, part-time employees will be provided 40 hours of paid sick leave each year.
