Responsibilities
Under supervision, the Laboratory Intern performs routine to complex - physical, chemical, and microbiological analysis on water, wastewater, and related samples, with emphasis on glassware prep, wet chemistry, and sample processing support
This position utilizes approved EPA methods, which includes the use of liquid/liquid and/or solid phase extraction techniques
The Laboratory Intern is responsible for general care and upkeep of the laboratory, which requires cleaning and sterilization of laboratory glassware, preparation of reagents, and the maintenance of laboratory chemical & physical inventories
The Laboratory Intern will use computer systems for instrument operation, generation of QA/QC control charts, and LIMS data entry support, and may perform other duties of a similar nature or level, as assigned
Qualification
Required
Must be a currently enrolled student in a bachelor's or graduate degree program with a major emphasis in Chemistry, Biology, or related fields
College undergraduate laboratory experience is required
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating & maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
Performs duties in a timely manner with minimal supervision
Handles various chemical reagents used in special washing procedures
Maintains a neat work area
Knowledge of safety practices and laboratory operational procedures is required
Interns must be enrolled full time in an accredited bachelor's or graduate degree program related to this field
Interns must have at least one year remaining in school
Interns must submit proof of full-time enrollment, class schedules and grades each semester/quarter
