Mechanic I - Sr.

Moulton Niguel Water District is seeking a Senior Mechanic to assist in the operation of their vehicle maintenance program. Responsibilities

In the absence of the Senior Mechanic and Mechanics II and III, is responsible for overseeing the vehicle maintenance shop
Assist in the overall maintenance and repair of District vehicles and related equipment
Facilitate parts pick up and vehicle delivery for the Support Services department
Assist with inventory assignments and assume warehouse duties as required in the absence of warehouse staff
Inspect gas and diesel engines and related components
Perform field maintenance on automotive equipment including repairs, replace/adjust tires, and make road calls for emergency servicing
Ability to successfully accomplish standard operating procedures as assigned by Supervisor
Work varying shifts, nights, weekends, holidays, overtime and respond to call backs
Performs other duties as assigned
Ability to perform the duties of a Mechanic I
Ability to service and troubleshoot electrical systems, air conditioning, drive train, and brakes
Assist in preventative maintenance schedule and record keeping for Class 1 – Class 8 vehicles
Ability to perform the duties of a Mechanic II & I
Assist in and train Mechanics I and II in the preventative maintenance of the District's Class 1 – Class 8 vehicles; work closely with Senior Mechanic and Supervisor on record keeping for Class 1 – Class 8 vehicles
Maintain written records relative to the operation of the vehicle maintenance program
Assist with forklift certifications
Perform all location and procurement of applicable parts and equipment for repair and maintenance; maintain inventory of supplies and equipment.Complete purchase orders, review invoices for accuracy, and ensure proper levels of inventory are received
Assist in Department of Transportation (DOT) 90-day California Highway Patrol (CHP) Biennial Inspection of Terminals (BIT) inspections
Prioritize work flow for daily activities
Ability to perform the duties of a Mechanic III, II, & I
Assist in the overall maintenance and repair of District's vehicles and related equipment, . This including gas and diesel vehicles, auxiliary engines and Using portable equipment; . Uses technical and comprehensive knowledge and skills necessary in order to complete for major engine overhauls, air brake system repairs, diesel engine repairs, and small engine repairs
Estimate time, materials, and equipment required to complete assigned projects
Demonstrate the ability to lead and direct daily activities by providing first-line direction, technical assistance and training to the assigned crew
Assist the Supervisor in developing the annual operating budget
Repair passenger vehicles and light or heavy trucks - Class 5 through Class 8
Ensure and participate in the diagnoses and repair and replacement of components including electrical systems, computerized ignition, fuel and analog systems, hydraulic, air brake and computerized anti-lock braking systems, hydraulic high pressure cylinder, valves pumps and related components

Required

High school diploma or equivalent certificate
Must possess a valid California driver's license and maintain a safe driving record
Experience in a vehicle maintenance program; must also display exceptional mechanical aptitude
Possess skills and knowledge of brake, tune-up, and electrical vehicle repairs
Possession of or ability to obtain Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Auto Maintenance & Light Repair (G1) certification within 18 months
Possession of Forklift Operation Certification or ability to obtain within 18 months
Ability to take direction and follow through on one's own to complete assigned duties
Applicable qualifications of a Mechanic I
Possession of Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Auto Maintenance & Light Repair (G1) certification
Ability to initiate work activities on one's own with minimal direction
Possession of Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Brake Repair certification (A5), or ability to obtain within 18 months of job placement
Possession of Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Engine Performance certification (A8) or ability to obtain within 18 months of job placement
Possession of Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Authorized Section 609 Certification or ability to obtain within 18 months of job placement
Applicable qualification of a Mechanic II
Must possess a valid California driver's license and obtain a Class A commercial driver's license with a tanker and air brakes endorsement within 18 months of job placement; must have a physical for commercial driver's license every two years; must also maintain a safe driving record
Specific skills and knowledge in On Board Diagnostic (OBD) 2 diagnosis and repair
Working knowledge of International Code Council (ICC) California Underground Storage Tank (UST) Operator certification rules and regulations
Ability to operate District's heavy equipment
Applicable qualifications of a Mechanic III
Possession of Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Auto Maintenance & Light Repair (G1) certification
Possession of Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Brake Repair certification (A5)
Possession of Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Engine Performance certification (A8)
