Administrative Zoning Technician

NEOGOV is seeking an Administrative Zoning Technician to support the Community Development Department. The role involves technical work related to permitting and zoning, including preparation of documents, processing applications, and assisting the public with inquiries.

Responsibilities

Reviews building, sign and landscape permits for compliance with applicable zoning codes and land use regulations and records all notes, corrections, and denials/approvals and conduct inspections as needed
Coordinates Logistics for department, including public notices and coordination with internal departments and external partners as needed
Responds to inquiries from the public in person, email and by telephone
Prepares letters, departmental procedures, agendas, resolutions, ordinances and other documents as required
Processes, tracks and maintains invoices and departmental purchasing records and supporting documentations
Maintains organized records and files for department in accordance with records retention requirements
Assists customers at the front counter, by telephone and electronically by responding to routine inquiries regarding zoning, land use, permitting, development review processes and community development programs
Assists with the preparation and distribution of public notices, mailings and postings in accordance with applicable regulations and procedures
Assists with the coordination of pre-application meetings by scheduling meetings, preparing materials, assembling background information, and documenting meeting outcomes, as directed
Participates in pre-application meetings in a support role by providing technical assistance, taking notes and assisting staff with follow-up tasks
Prepares travel registrations; prepares the necessary authorization and expense forms, retrieves signatures and submits for processing in accordance with the travel policy and procedures; maintains departmental records
Performs other related job duties as assigned

Required

Associate Degree or related field AND one (1) year of experience in development services or planning at the local government level; OR two (2) years of progressively responsible working experience in a planning and zoning environment or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities
Possession of a valid, State of Florida driver's license to operate a motor vehicle. Requirement exists at the time of hire and as a condition of continued employment
Knowledge of basic municipal principles and practices; research methods, and have ability to decipher building plans, specifications and maps
Ability to effectively perform basic plan check review; establish and maintain accurate records; clearly define problems and develop solutions; set priorities, meet deadlines and make sound decisions
Ability to maintain level of knowledge required for satisfactory job performance; communicate effectively; establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees and the general public; and coordinate assigned work activities
Knowledge of general office policies and procedures, computers and general office equipment
Knowledge in reviewing plans and recommending changes and updates
Ability to analyze data and applying information to zoning, urban design, and other planning activities
Experience reading and reviewing surveys, civil and architectural drawings, and site plans
Skill in managing time and project load appropriately
Ability in monitoring permitting and application status
Ability in communicating effectively, verbally and in writing
Ability in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships
Skilled in operating a computer and related software including Microsoft Office Suite
