Project Engineer

Responsibilities
Support the Project Manager and Superintendent in planning, scheduling, and coordinating all project phases
Prepare, review, and track subcontracts, purchase orders, change orders, and other project documents
Assist in drafting and reviewing client contracts, ensuring scopes, terms, and deliverables are clearly defined and aligned with project goals
Coordinate permitting, inspections, and documentation with governing agencies and consultants
Manage all project documentation in Procore including RFIs, submittals, transmittals, and closeout packages
Perform quantity takeoffs, labor and material analysis, and develop preliminary and detailed cost estimates
Review plans, specifications, and addenda to confirm bid scope and accuracy
Solicit, evaluate, and scope subcontractor and vendor proposals to support bid preparation
Identify scope gaps, constructability issues, and potential value engineering opportunities
Support the transition from preconstruction to active project execution by aligning budget and schedule expectations
Assist in writing, issuing, and managing prime contracts, subcontracts, and purchase agreements
Maintain accurate and detailed cost tracking for all assigned projects
Generate and review progress billings, subcontractor pay applications, and owner invoices to ensure accuracy, supporting documentation, and timely submission
Reconcile monthly cost reports and ensure all change orders and budget adjustments are captured and approved
Coordinate with accounting to ensure project financials align with contract terms and billing schedules
Create, maintain, and update project schedules using MS Project or similar platforms
Prepare daily and weekly progress reports with photos, inspection logs, and key milestones
Maintain organized project files, as-built drawings, and quality documentation throughout the project lifecycle
Work closely with Superintendents to monitor progress, resolve field issues, and verify conformance to plans and specifications
Coordinate subcontractors and suppliers to maintain jobsite efficiency and adherence to schedule
Participate in onsite meetings and safety audits to ensure compliance with CN’s safety culture and OSHA standards
Serve as a reliable and professional point of contact for clients, consultants, and subcontractors
Support Project Managers in maintaining positive client relationships through transparency, responsiveness, and attention to detail
Communicate project updates, risks, and critical decisions promptly and effectively
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field
2-4 years of experience in commercial construction, with exposure to both field operations and office management
Proven experience in contract writing, cost tracking, and owner/subcontractor invoicing
Proficiency with Procore, Bluebeam, MS Excel, and MS Project required
Strong knowledge of construction drawings, specifications, and preconstruction processes
Valid driver's license and ability to travel to project sites across California
Preferred
Familiarity with estimating tools and methodologies (On-Screen Takeoff, PlanSwift, or similar) a plus
