NEOGOV is seeking a Communications and Engagement Intern for the City of Raleigh's Planning and Development Department. This temporary summer internship provides hands-on experience in public sector communications and community engagement, allowing interns to work on various projects and develop professional skills.

Responsibilities

Create engaging content and short videos for social media platforms
Assist with planning and executing public meetings and events
Conduct research to support communication and outreach strategies
Participate in brainstorming sessions for campaigns and initiatives
Engage with the public during events and outreach activities
Draft press releases and other written materials
Support community engagement and marketing efforts across multiple projects
Take photos and/or video at engagement events

Required

Must be enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program and a student in good academic standing
Be motivated and dependable, and detail oriented
Have an interest in community engagement and public service
Have experience creating short videos for social media
Possess strong organizational and interpersonal skills
Demonstrate excellent verbal and written communications skills
Be familiar with various social media platforms (Instagram, Facebook, X and YouTube)
Be able to manage multiple assignments and meet deadlines
Have flexibility to assist during evening or weekend hours (as needed)

Preferred

Preference for students enrolled in a program leading to a degree in City and Regional Planning, Urban Design, Public Policy, Public Administration, or Communications
Knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite (helpful but not required)
Familiarity with video editing tools or apps (e.g., Canva, CapCut, iMovie)
