Associate Engineer - Inertial Fusion Technology
General Atomics (GA) is a leading resource for high-technology systems development, and they are seeking an Associate Engineer to join their Energy division. This role involves supporting engineering staff in the analysis and resolution of routine engineering problems and contributing to small projects or phases of larger projects.

Responsibilities
Operate GDP coaters and related equipment. Participate in capsule production within the coating laboratory
Work in the ICF target characterization lab to support quality and performance assessments
Serve as the order champion for ICF target production, managing the process from fabrication to delivery to national labs
Follow all safety protocols and best practices in laboratory and coating operations
Applies basic technical knowledge to analyze, investigate and resolve assigned routine engineering problems
Performs functional testing of equipment and systems by utilizing standard engineering and scientific principles
Obtains and analyzes test data
Develops appropriate documentation of findings and implemented solutions, and communicates results to project engineering staff. May be required to make technical presentations to project staff
May provide direction to design staff or technicians
Maintains the strict confidentiality of sensitive information
Performs other duties as assigned
Responsible for observing all laws, regulations and other applicable obligations wherever and whenever business is conducted on behalf of the Company. Expected to work in a safe manner in accordance with established operating procedures and practices
Qualification
Required
Typically requires a bachelors degree in engineering or a related technical discipline from an accredited institution. May substitute equivalent engineering experience in lieu of education
Willingness and ability to learn operation of GDP coaters
Strong organizational and communication skills
Must have a basic understanding of engineering concepts, principles, and theory
Demonstrates the ability to follow and apply basic engineering knowledge, adapt standard techniques, and utilize the required diagnostics, tools and equipment, while ensuring safety and regulatory compliance
Must be able to understand new concepts quickly and apply them accurately throughout an evolving environment
Good communication, computer, and interpersonal skills are required to enable an effective interface with other professionals, to produce appropriate documentation, and to present results to a limited internal audience
Must be able to work both independently and on a team
Able to work extended hours as required
Preferred
Prefer degrees in Physics, Chemistry Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Material Science
Experience with plasma coating processes is preferred
Experience in laboratory environments or with target fabrication is a plus
