Responsibilities

Provides guidance and direction to 1st-year students at IU
Assists FASE students with their social and academic adjustment to college
Meets with FASE students during virtual office hours
Maintains reasonable virtual and/or in-person contact with protégés (Zoom, office, phone, text, e-mail)
Serves as a liaison between students and the FASE Program, alerting staff of any pressing student concerns
Attends FASE activities virtually or in person as directed
Instills and teaches values relative to education and leadership excellence
Plans and presents activities programs to FASE students for developmental purposes throughout the academic year
Collaborates with peer mentors and FASE Advisory Board student organization in planning and implementing virtual activities for students
Provides logistical assistance to FASE Advisory Board (FAB) and Mentor Apprenticeship Program (MAP) Coordinator
Provides documentation of protégé-mentor contacts through the AdRx advising tool, as well as the bi-weekly Session Summaries at the end of each pay period
Performs other duties as arranged with the FASE Director
Conducts virtual or in-person mentoring sessions through office hours or as arranged with protégés
Refers students to university resources such as CAPS, the Academic Support Centers, or Writing Tutorial Services
Completes FASE mentor, program, and activity surveys and evaluations
Provides programmatic advice and suggestions to the FASE director
Uses virtual tools such as email, Skype for Business, Zoom, Canvas, AdRx, etc. as appropriate
Involves regular mentoring sessions, event participation, and documentation of student interactions

Required

Currently enrolled as an undergraduate student at IU as a sophomore or above in class standing
Ability to enroll in a 1 credit hour mentoring course during Fall and Spring semesters
Proficient in written and verbal communication
Demonstrates initiative, responsibility, and the ability to guide others
Ability to balance mentoring responsibilities with academic and personal commitments
Comfortable with presenting or leading group discussions or events
Must be in good academic standing for the duration of employment
Applicants are encouraged to have no more than 18 credit hours per semester with this position

Preferred

Experience in positions that require strong interpersonal and communication skills
Experience as a peer mentor, resident assistant (RA), or tutor in high school or college
Experience holding a leadership position in a student club, cultural organization, or academic society
Volunteer experience with youth programs, educational outreach, or community mentoring
