Traction Power Systems Technician
Valley Metro RPTA is responsible for providing public transportation services, and they are seeking a Traction Power Systems Technician to ensure the reliable operation of the rail network. This role involves maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing traction power systems to provide consistent electrical power to trains, contributing to the overall efficiency and safety of rail operations.

Responsibilities
Inspects, tests and repairs overhead lines (catenary), power distribution cables, and electrical substation equipment
Performs inspections and repairs traction power voltage, monitor systems, charging systems, circuit breakers and other electrical substation systems
Troubleshoots, analyzes, and isolates malfunctions, conducts inspections, tests, modifies, maintains and repairs traction power voltage, monitoring systems, charging systems, circuit breakers and other electrical substation systems
Performs complex repair and troubleshooting; safely uses and maintains hand and power tools and test equipment related to the work
Performs preventive maintenance on overhead power lines and substations
Maintains parts inventory and computer inventory records
Ensures proper safety precautions are followed particularly around energized circuits
Attends safety and training meetings; participates in emergency preparedness systems
Prepares written reports, documents defects and repairs on inspection forms and work orders
Operates boom, bucket and tower trucks, and other equipment and tools
Performs other duties of similar nature and level as assigned
Qualification
Required
High School Diploma or GED
Two (2) years of experience in electrical inspections, maintenance and repair of successful completion of a recognized apprenticeship program for electricians
Must be available to work a variety of shifts including days, evenings, nights, weekends, holidays, overtime and odd and unusual hours; may be called in on day-off to respond to emergencies
Valid Arizona Driver's License and a safe driving record
Incumbent is required to obtain a Class B CDL permit within 90 days of attending New Employee Orientation and obtain a full Class B CDL with air brake endorsement within 6 months of hire
Employment is contingent upon passing a DOT physical examination
Employment is contingent upon the results of a background check
Employment is contingent on passing pre-employment drug screen
Preferred
Experience in overhead lines and cables and/or high voltage substations
Experience with electrified systems (AC and DC systems)
