Building Custodian & Maintenance Technician

Responsibilities

Performs general maintenance and repair work on buildings, equipment, grounds, and related facilities: and performs semi-skilled manual work involving building maintenance, plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting and drywall, masonry, custodial, or other maintenance projects
Assist in ensuring that operation, construction, and maintenance of buildings, equipment, and systems are in compliance with applicable laws, codes, regulations, and standards: conducts maintenance inspections of buildings, equipment, grounds, and facilities to identify potential problems, unsafe conditions, and needed repairs; and initiates any actions necessary to correct deviations or violations
Performs various plumbing tasks: troubleshoots plumbing problems: installs and repairs plumbing fixtures; clears and unblocks water lines and drains; repairs steam lines, toilets, sinks, faucets, drinking fountains, etc.; solders pipes; and repairs plumbing leaks
Performs various electrical tasks: troubleshoots electrical problems; installs electrical receptacles and switches; repairs electrical components; trips or replaces breaker; and replaces light bulbs and ballasts
Performs various tasks involving general building maintenance, carpentry, masonry or construction projects: paints interior and exterior surfaces; performs general concrete work, plaster applications and places sheetrock; removes, repairs, and replaces floor/ceiling tile; inspects, installs and repairs roofs; installs, adjusts, and repairs doors and hardware; replaces windows, doors, and glass panes; lubricates hardware; performs locksmith duties; and performs related maintenance and repair activities
Determines amount of materials needed to complete projects: provides cost projections as requested; gathers equipment, tools, parts, and supplies; monitors inventory levels; and orders new or replacement materials as required
Participates in the setup and removal of tables, chairs, stages etc. for daily meetings and classes and special events
Responsible for purchasing construction and maintenance related items; accountable for delivery of related financial paperwork to administrative staff
Performs other related duties as assigned

Required

High School Diploma or GED required, supplemented by previous experience in building maintenance and repair
Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License
Tasks require the regular and, at times, sustained performance of moderately physically demanding work, typically involving some combination of climbing and balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling, and that may involve the lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of moderately heavy objects and materials (20-50 pounds); may occasionally involve heavier objects and materials (up to 100 pounds)
Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate colors or shades of colors, sounds, taste, odor, depth, texture, and visual cues or signals
Some tasks require the ability to communicate orally
Performance of essential functions may require exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as dirt, dust, pollen, odors, wetness, humidity, rain, fumes, smoke, noise extremes, and electric currents

Preferred

Basic Computer Skills including email and word
Experience in custodial work
Willing to travel to different senior services locations
Experience cleaning bodily fluids
Small facilities repair including patch painting and replacement of outlet covers
Experience with event setup and takedown
