Shift Administrator (Probation Supervisor I)

Fairfax County Government is seeking a Shift Administrator (Probation Supervisor I) responsible for supervising a childcare team and ensuring the safety and well-being of youth in detention. Responsibilities

Supervises daily operations of the unit, including work schedules, assigns and manages the workload, and maintains statistical records for the unit
Actively participates in the selection, orientation, training and performance management process which includes evaluating performance, identifying goals and objectives, recognizing staff achievements, and coaching staff in overcoming performance or skill deficiencies
Evaluates and recommends changes in policies, procedures, and operations
Assigns and reviews cases and records maintenance
Keeps records and prepares reports
Testifies in court and provides required written reports on adjustment and compliance with court orders

Required

A master's degree in social/behavioral sciences, law enforcement, or education; plus, three years of professional experience in probation/court services work
Medication Management (Required within 6 months)
Driver's License at the time of application
CPR/First Aid (Required within 30 days)
Handle With Care (physical restraint procedures and techniques) (Required within 30 days)
This position is considered Emergency Service Personnel to ensure the continuity of essential operations, and will be required to report to work during times designated countywide as approved for unscheduled leave regardless of the emergency situation (i.e., weather, transportation, other disaster)
The appointee to the position will be required to complete the following to the satisfaction of the employer: Criminal Background Investigation, Child Protective Services, Sanction Screenings, Driving Record Check, Pre-employment Medical Evaluation, Tuberculosis Test

Preferred

Thorough Knowledge of the Virginia Department of Juvenile Justice (DJJ) regulations governing the operation of a Secure Juvenile Detention Center, thorough knowledge of the Detention Center's policy and procedures and the overall operation of the Detention Center's Security Systems, including CCTV, PIPE System, all data base driven systems
Familiarity with the Code of Virginia (VCC) as it relates to placement of youth in a Secure Detention Center
Experience in performing managerial and supervisory work in the Juvenile Justice System
Knowledge and experience operating a Secure Juvenile Detention Center at the managerial level; policy and procedure development
Knowledge of current treatment approaches for addressing a host of adolescent issues including mental health and substance abuse concerns
Should be a proven leader and possess skills in program management
Possess excellent customer service and effective communication skills
Professional experience in Juvenile Justice, including supervisory experience and managerial experience; conducting operations in a Juvenile Detention Center
Proficient in the use of MS Office software (Word and Excel)
