Responsibilities
Own and evolve core backend infrastructure and workflow systems, ensuring they are highly reliable, scalable, observable, and easy to operate in production
Design and implement complex backend systems, APIs, and long-running workflows
Drive major infrastructure initiatives, including the migration from our legacy TypeScript-based workflow system to Temporal, with a strong focus on correctness, fault tolerance, and operational safety
Partner closely with engineering leadership and adjacent teams to translate business requirements into robust technical designs, while maintaining a long-term view of system health and architecture
Identify systemic risks, performance bottlenecks, and reliability gaps, and proactively design and ship improvements before they become incidents
Participate in on-call and incident response, contributing not just fixes but durable solutions through better tooling, observability, and workflow design
Raise the technical bar through code reviews, design feedback, and strong technical judgment, leading by example through execution rather than management
Qualification
Required
5+ years of deep, hands-on backend engineering experience building and operating production systems at scale
Proven experience designing fault-tolerant, distributed systems; strong familiarity with workflow orchestration (e.g., Temporal) is highly preferred
Expertise in at least one modern backend language such as TypeScript, Python, Go, Rust with the ability to quickly ramp up in others
Strong understanding of data pipelines, ETL/ELT processes, and working with databases and cloud platforms (e.g., MongoDB, PostgreSQL, Snowflake, AWS, Render)
Track record of owning ambiguous, high-impact technical problems end-to-end and delivering durable solutions
Strong production instincts: careful about failure modes, data correctness, edge cases, and operational visibility
Clear, concise written and verbal communication, especially when articulating technical tradeoffs and design decisions
Curiosity and interest in crypto, financial markets, and systems that operate at the intersection of finance and infrastructure
