$60/hr - $75/hrWell Made Brands is an early-stage functional food brand developing a nostalgic product. They are seeking a food scientist or product developer to assist in the creative, experimental phase of product building by developing formulations and prototypes.
Marketing & Advertising
Responsibilities
Develop 1 core base and 1–2 functional variations
Advise on ingredient tradeoffs (taste, texture, functionality, cost)
Create small-batch prototypes for tasting and iteration
Provide rough guidance on shelf stability and formulation considerations (no formal validation required at this stage)
Collaborate directly with the founder in a fast, low-bureaucracy environment
Qualification
Required
Background in food science, product development, or R&D
Experience with spreads, sauces, preserves, or functional foods
Comfortable working without a rigid SOW or over-engineered process
Interested in early-stage brands and creative problem solving
NYC-based or nearby preferred (for easier sampling), but open to remote if experienced
Preferred
Experience with shelf-stable or reduced-sugar formulations
Familiarity with functional ingredients (adaptogens, botanicals, fibers, etc.)
Prior startup or freelance consulting experience
