Digital Court Reporter / Scopist
MGM Trial Services, Inc. is seeking a professional and adaptable Digital Court Reporter to serve as the custodian of the legal record during depositions. The role involves operating audio/video recording equipment, administering oaths, managing transcription software, and ensuring the accuracy of deposition transcripts.
Responsibilities
Set up and operate audio/video recording equipment for depositions, troubleshooting when necessary
Administer oaths and ensure proceedings are conducted clearly and professionally
Manage transcription software during proceedings, diarizing appropriately to ensure adequate rough transcripts
Scope and proofread transcripts to ensure verbatim accuracy
Exercise critical judgment in resolving ambiguities
Verify spellings for proper names and other technical details
Ensure transcripts meet legal formatting conventions and company standards
Maintain confidentiality and professionalism in handling sensitive legal materials
Adhere to project deadlines while maintaining meticulous accuracy
Qualification
Required
An exceptional command of English grammar, usage, and mechanics
Full-time candidates must be AAERT certified (CDR and CET) within one year of employment
Full-time candidates must have a valid driver's license and access to a reliable personal vehicle (mileage reimbursed for assignment-related travel)
Digital reporter candidates must have, or be eligible to obtain, a State Notary commission
Preferred
Eligibility to become a Maryland Notary
At least 1 year of experience in legal, technical, or professional settings
2- or 4-year degree
A proven background in professional writing and editing
Familiarity with legal, medical, and business terminology
