Assistant Traffic Engineer Grade IV
The City of Worcester is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Assistant Traffic Engineer, Grade IV for the Department of Transportation and Mobility. The role involves performing professional traffic engineering work related to the design and operation of the public right of way with an emphasis on the safety and access of vulnerable roadway users.

Responsibilities
Performs professional traffic engineering work related to the design and operation of the public right of way including the movement of pedestrians, bicycles, micro-mobility devices, public transit, and motor vehicles with an emphasis on the safety and access of vulnerable roadway users
Reports to the Assistant Director of Transportation & Mobility and works under the general supervision of the senior engineering staff
Uses independent judgement in planning and carrying out work details in accordance with established policies and standard procedures
Guidance and technical review for complex work is provided by a senior engineer or other appropriate supervising staff
Works in collaboration with a variety of engineering, planning and other staff from the Department of Transportation & Mobility and other departments and outside stakeholders
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in civil engineering, transportation engineering, or a related field
Two (2) years of civil/transportation engineering experience
Valid Driver's License
Preferred
Master's degree in civil engineering, transportation engineering, or a related field
Four (4) years of civil/transportation engineering experience involving planning, design and/or traffic operations, with demonstrated experience in one or more of the following areas:
Traffic signal design and/or operations
Application of pavement markings, signs and related traffic control devices
Experience using the Complete Streets approach to street planning and design
Two (2) years of experience using Synchro, AutoCAD, and/or GIS
Current E.I.T. certification or Professional Engineers (Civil) License
