Responsibilities

Assign accurate diagnosis and procedure codes to all inpatient and outpatient medical records of discharged patients
Ensure coding accuracy and compliance with regulatory standards and organizational policies
Review and analyze physicians’ E&M levels monthly, providing constructive feedback to improve coding precision
Maintain and update a comprehensive clinical database, capturing relevant clinical data elements for billing and reporting purposes
Collaborate with healthcare providers to clarify documentation and resolve coding discrepancies
Stay updated with changes in coding guidelines, classification systems, and billing regulations
Assist in audits and quality assurance initiatives related to coding accuracy and documentation compliance
Participate in ongoing education and training to enhance coding skills and knowledge of industry standards

Qualification

Required

High school diploma or equivalent
Certification in coding such as Certified Professional Coder (CPC), CPC-H, with CPC highly preferred over CPC-H; ICD-10 Certification is essential
Credentials must be maintained and current
Computer literacy with strong data entry skills
Thorough understanding of ICD-9-CM, ICD-10-CM, HCPCS, and CPT-4 classification systems
Minimum of one year of experience as a certified coder, including actual coding and abstracting from documentation in a physician practice setting
Alternatively, candidates with a minimum of six months of certified CPC experience and at least three years of actual abstract coding experience are considered
Participation in an internal coding assessment within three months of hire is required
