Director of Field Operations
Lake Appliance Repair is seeking a dynamic and results-oriented Director of Field Operations to lead and oversee the development of our technician workforce across our multi-state operation. This pivotal role will leverage your expert-level appliance repair knowledge and your proven passion for mentoring to drive the strategic design, implementation, and delivery of high-impact training programs.
Responsibilities
Develop and Implement National Training Strategy: Design and execute a comprehensive national training strategy aligned with business objectives, focusing on enhancing technician skills, improving service quality, and driving operational efficiency
Lead and Manage Mentor Technicians: Supervise, mentor, and develop a team of mentor technicians, providing guidance, support, and professional development opportunities to ensure consistent and effective training delivery across all locations
Standardize Training Methodologies: Establish and maintain standardized training methodologies, curriculum, and delivery approaches to ensure consistent application of best practices and quality control across all training programs
Curriculum Development and Maintenance: Oversee the development, maintenance, and continuous improvement of training materials, including manuals, guides, and digital resources, ensuring accuracy, relevance, and alignment with industry standards and technological advancements
Performance Analysis and Reporting: Develop and implement systems for tracking, evaluating, and reporting on training effectiveness, using data to identify areas for improvement, measure ROI, and inform strategic decision-making
Deliver Expert Training: Facilitate engaging and interactive training sessions, incorporating a blend of classroom instruction, virtual learning, and hands-on, on-the-job (OJT) experiences, covering a broad spectrum of household appliances and advanced repair techniques
Adaptable Training Programs: Develop and adapt training programs to meet the diverse skill levels and learning styles of technicians, ensuring all trainees, as well as fully-trained technicians, have the opportunity to reach their full potential, as well as continuous development over time
Instructional Excellence: Employ a variety of instructional techniques, including role-playing, simulations, group discussions, and interactive exercises, to maximize knowledge retention, practical application, and engagement
Provide Expert Guidance: Serve as a subject matter expert and mentor to technicians and mentor technicians, providing guidance, coaching, and support to foster continuous skill development and professional growth
Assess and Evaluate Performance: Conduct practical assessments, quizzes, and hands-on demonstrations to gauge trainee progress, identify areas for improvement, and provide constructive feedback
Identify and Address Training Needs: Conduct needs assessments, surveys, meetings, and focus groups to identify training gaps, tailor programs to specific requirements, and develop alternative training methods to optimize outcomes
Maintain Technical Proficiency: Stay abreast of industry best practices, safety regulations, emerging technologies, and advancements in appliance repair techniques, ensuring training programs reflect the latest knowledge and skills
Demonstrate Advanced Expertise: Showcase in-depth understanding of residential appliances, including sealed systems, wiring diagrams, appliance related plumbing connections, electrical systems, and controls, and possess the ability to diagnose and resolve complex appliance failures
Promote Safety and Compliance: Ensure all training programs emphasize safety protocols, proper tool usage (including multimeters and heavy appliance movement equipment), and adherence to industry regulations
Collaborate with Stakeholders: Work closely with technical experts, industry partners, management, and other departments to align training programs with business objectives, gather feedback, and ensure effective communication
Foster Open Communication: Create and maintain open communication channels for trainees, trainers and technical management to ask questions, share insights, and collaborate on best practices
Promote Professional Standards: Uphold the highest professional standards in all interactions with customers, office staff, technicians and leadership, fostering a culture of respect, integrity, and excellence
Qualification
Required
Minimum 5+ years of hands-on experience in appliance repair, with a focus on advanced diagnostics and complex repairs
3+ years of experience in developing and delivering technical training programs, preferably in a multi-location environment
Proven ability to lead, manage, and develop a team of trainers
In-depth knowledge of appliance repair principles, including sealed systems, wiring diagrams, and advanced diagnostics
Excellent communication, interpersonal, presentation, and facilitation skills
Computer knowledge and proficiency in Google Workspace and other relevant training development and delivery platforms
Strong organizational, problem-solving, analytical, and time-management skills
Valid driver's license and ability to travel up to 75% of the time
Ability to speak and understand the English language
EPA/CFC Universal Certification
Availability for on-call, off-hours, and emergency work as needed
Ability to work flexible schedules, including weekends and holidays
Successful completion of background check, motor vehicle record report, drug screening, and skills testing
Regular and continuous scheduled travel to regional locations based on training needs and business requirements
Ability to meet the physical demands of the job, including standing/walking for extended periods, bending, kneeling, and lifting up to 100 lbs
Ability to work in various environmental conditions
