Technical Writer

Bowhead / UIC Technical Services is a reputable organization dedicated to providing specialized technical support and solutions to government agencies, particularly within defense and military sectors. The Technical Writer/Editor position offers an exciting opportunity to manage and edit technical documentation, facilitate communication, and provide meeting support in a part-time role at the Naval Surface Warfare Center, Dahlgren Division.

Responsibilities

Providing comprehensive technical writing and editing support, ensuring that all technical documentation adheres to proper spelling, grammar, punctuation, and formatting standards
Performing configuration management tasks, maintaining and organizing a collection of government publications and technical documents according to approved guidelines
Managing document libraries, classifying materials, and facilitating access to information will be key functions
Providing meeting support, including scheduling, facilitating discussions, preparing minutes, and tracking action items to ensure follow-through on project tasks
Supporting project management activities, particularly related to procurement processes, by evaluating project progress against established goals and requirements
Collaborating with team members, providing accurate and timely updates, and contributing to the overall success of research projects and program objectives

Required

A minimum of two years of experience in technical writing, editing, formatting, and configuration management of documentation using approved guidelines is required
Experience supporting meetings, including scheduling, facilitating, preparing minutes, and tracking action items, is essential
Candidates should have a background in project management support, especially in evaluating whether established goals, requirements, and objectives are met
Proficiency in Adobe Acrobat and Microsoft Office tools such as Teams, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel is necessary
Strong interpersonal skills, sound judgment, and the ability to work independently or collaboratively are critical
Excellent oral and written communication skills are mandatory to effectively interact with peers, clients, and leadership
Physical requirements include the ability to lift up to 25 pounds, stand, walk, and perform periodic twisting, bending, and squatting

Preferred

The preferred candidate will hold a Bachelor's Degree (or equivalent) in English, Technical Writing, Communications, or a related field
Experience related to Gun Weapon Systems or Navy programs is highly desirable
A working knowledge of MS Project being advantageous
