Assistant Director, Student Development
Inside Higher Ed is seeking an Assistant Director of Student Development to support leadership in the design, implementation, and evaluation of Student Development programs and initiatives. Responsibilities
Provides campus-based leadership and supervision for the development, implementation, and assessment of campus co-curricular programs, services, and initiatives designed to engage students within the Student Development Program
Assists in leadership, coordination, communication, and implementation of college-wide programs, services, and initiatives. Provides ongoing review and assessment of college-wide and campus-based programs to ensure a comprehensive and coordinated approach to student engagement
Collaborates with faculty, staff, and administration to plan, design, organize, and implement services and programs that support student learning and development. Evaluates efficiency of the programs and identifies patterns and areas of concerns to develop alternate courses of action; obtains and analyzes data to streamline processes that support department strategic goals within budget and time constraints
Supports college-wide Student Development through the review, revision, and management of internal/external Student Development communication and marketing platforms such as websites, social media, and student engagement online portals
Advises and supports student groups, student organizations, and faculty/staff advisors. Implements and evaluates student leadership curriculum and ongoing development opportunities for student governance groups and student organizations, making modifications as needed
Oversees the daily technical and administrative activities of the department and supports the development of Student Development initiatives under the direction of Student Development leadership. Hires and supervises campus-based Student Development staff. Guides, evaluates, and distributes work; coordinates schedules; provides input into the annual performance development process; conducts training; and ensures compliance with applicable rules, laws, and guidelines
Manages the campus-based Student Activity Fee budget
Maintains the integrity of the campus-based student activity expenditure process by working closely with departmental staff and registered student organization advisors regarding timely and appropriate expenditure of funds. Researches discrepancies, determining appropriate action and follow-up needed
Works with college-wide budget team to publish the annual campus-based Student Activity Fee budget and provides reconciliation reports to all Student Activity Fee budget requestors/managers
Conducts focus groups, online surveys, and other feedback mechanisms to remain current in the provision of co-curricular programming and student engagement opportunities. Evaluates effectiveness for capturing data, updating as needed
Initiates, plans and makes recommendations concerning the improvement of the campus environment
Develops and implements a campus-based action plan to support student engagement and a learning-centered environment
Formulates and recommends program goals and strategic objectives in Student Development. Interprets and implements management policies and operational practices
Represents the Director of Student Development as needed
Performs other related duties as assigned
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's Degree from a regionally accredited institution
Two (2) years of experience in student development/student activity to include lead or supervisory experience and budget management experience
Knowledge of the principles, practices, and procedures of Student Development and learning centered approaches
Skill in relationship management, including conflict engagement, facilitation, consulting, constructive inquiry, and collaboration
Ability to manage and supervise a team of professional, support, and student employees
Skill in the use of personal computers and general office software
Fiscal integrity and the ability to manage multiple budgets
Ability to work effectively in a diverse community and meet the needs of diverse student and employee populations
Ability to travel between campus locations, and travel with students, faculty, and/or staff as needed
Preferred
Student Personnel, higher education, guidance/counseling or public administration experience
Experience with multi-campus, two-year college student populations
