Human Resources Manager

Appalachian Voices is a nonprofit advocacy organization dedicated to protecting the environment of Central and Southern Appalachia. They are seeking a Human Resources Manager to oversee HR practices, support staff needs, and enhance employee experience within the organization.
Environmental Services

Responsibilities

Serve as a trusted resource for staff, supporting employees’ professional growth and coordinating regular staff engagement opportunities through surveys, open feedback sessions, and stay interviews
Oversee and administer the organization’s HR policies and procedures to support consistency, compliance, and operational effectiveness
Assist managers with the recruiting, hiring, onboarding and offboarding processes
Administer all employee benefits, including management of new hire enrollment, benefits renewals, and annual open enrollment cycles
Partner with leadership and managers in developing retention strategies, professional development, and succession plans to prevent undesired turnover and advance smooth employment transitions
Support the performance evaluation process and assist managers with team members who are facing challenges
Maintain AV’s HRIS system in BambooHR, which includes all employee files

Qualification

Required

Minimum of three to five years of Human Resources experience in the above areas, with preference for prior non-profit HR experience
Bachelor's degree in Human Resources Management, a related degree with equivalent experience, or other HR trainings and certifications
Strong knowledge of employment-related laws and regulations
Thorough knowledge of payroll processes, IRS and multi-state payroll regulations, and benefits options
Excellent interpersonal and active listening skills
Effective verbal and written communication skills
Excellent organizational skills and ability to prioritize tasks
Ability to act with humility, empathy, integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality
Ability to act independently on HR tasks and initiatives, but collaborate across the organization as needed
Proficient with Microsoft Office, G-Suite, HRIS, or related software
