The N.C. Department of Adult Correction is one of the largest state agencies responsible for safeguarding and preserving lives and property. They are seeking an HVAC Mechanic I to provide journey level work in heating, air conditioning, refrigeration, plumbing, and food service equipment maintenance.

Responsibilities

Performing special repairs and assignments that are received by work orders from authorized personnel
Identifying the cause of a problem; determining materials and tools needed and method of repair; and carrying out repair procedures independently on most jobs
Performing scheduled maintenance functions as required and outlined in the preventative maintenance plans
Training and/or supervising the work of offender helpers

Qualification

HVAC systems maintenanceRefrigeration systems repairEPA certificationPlumbing skillsSupervisory skills

Required

High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and three years of progressive experience in the installation, maintenance or repair of air conditioning chillers, air handling, chilled water distribution and control systems
An equivalent combination of education and experience
Requires current certification by the Environmental Protection Agency as a Type I, II, III or Universal technician as required by Title 40, Code of Federal Regulations part 82, subpart F
Working knowledge of the practices, methods, materials, and/or equipment used in the operation, maintenance, and/or repair of industrial air conditioning and refrigeration systems
